Two Men Arrested in London Blasts
Two Men Arrested in London Blasts By ROBERT BARR, Associated Press Writer
2 minutes ago

LONDON - Small explosions struck the London Underground and a bus at midday Thursday in a chilling but bloodless replay of the suicide bombings that killed 56 people two weeks ago. Police made two arrests in the case.

No one was injured in the coordinated lunch-hour blasts, which shocked and disrupted the capital and were hauntingly similar to the July 7 bombings by four attackers.

Police Commissioner Ian Blair said forensic evidence collected from the crime scenes could provide a "significant break" in solving the case, and hours later police announced two arrests in connection with the latest attacks.

1. They collected forensic evidence at the crime scenes?
Damn! We should have done something like that after 9/11/2001! How did we forget to do that that -- collecting forensic evidence?

4. Nope...
... what crime scenes? Remember 911 is officially not a "crime".

(says me sarcastically)

2. BBC TV says none of the people arrested are connected to the bombs
Armed officers were twice deployed to nearby University College Hospital, following reports that someone had run away from Warren Street. Three unoccupied rooms in the hospital remained cordoned off on Thursday evening. Police later said they believed two people who had been arrested in the area were unconnected to the blasts and had been released.

and they said the same, on TV, for the guy arrested in Whitehall.

5. Two men arrested in London not held under anti-terror laws: police
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 05:52 PM by maddezmom
LONDON (AFP) - Two men arrested in central London around the time of the bomb alerts were not detained under anti-terrorism laws, police said, while refusing to confirm they were not connected to the attacks.

"We cannot say at this stage," a spokesman for the capital's Metropolitan Police told AFP, adding that they were not arrested under anti-terrorism laws, as is usually the case for terror suspects.

Earlier, the head of the force Commissioner Ian Blair said the two arrests were "entirely unconnected events" to the attacks.

6. Two Arrested in London Subway, Bus Blasts
By DANICA KIRKA, Associated Press Writer

"LONDON - Police in London have arrested two men in connection with four attacks on three subway trains and a double-decker bus on Thursday, a scene hauntingly similar to deadly explosions set off by four suicide bombers exactly two weeks before. It was an inescapable message that life in London now means living with the threat of terror.

The explosive devices were either faulty or too small to cause bloodshed, and the only reported injury turned out to be an asthma attack. But the lunch-hour blasts rattled a capital already on edge after the July 7 explosions, which killed 52 people and four suicide bombers.

Police said one man was detained near Downing Street, site of the prime minister's residence; the other was picked up near Tottenham Court Road, close to the Warren Street subway station where one attack took place.

"We can't minimize incidents such as this," Prime Minister Tony Blair said. "They're done to scare people, to frighten them and make them worried."

7. The two men have been released without charge, BBC says
Two men, one arrested in Whitehall, close to Downing Street, and another around Tottenham Court Road, have been released without charge.

In fact, at the press conference yesterday at around 5 or 6 o'clock (BST), the police spokesman was already saying these arrests were "unconnected" with the attacks..

9. A city of how many million? The police all jumpy? I'm surprised they
didn't arrest more innocents.
