Kimberly-Clark plans 6,000 job cuts
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8664373/

I think I need a tissue...

That economy sure is on FIRE!!!!!:nuke:

DALLAS - Kimberly-Clark Corp., the maker of Kleenex tissues and Huggies diapers, said Friday it plans to cut about 6,000 jobs and sell or close up to 20 manufacturing plants, while boosting spending on certain core product lines and emerging markets during the next three and a half years.

The company announced the plans as it reported earnings for the second quarter fell slightly due to a tax expense for repatriating foreign profits. Sales rose 8 percent, helped by strong sales of tissue products in North America.

The multiyear restructuring plan will result in a net work force reduction of about 10 percent and include closing or selling about 17 percent of its plants worldwide by the end of 2008, the company said. In addition, another four facilities will be streamlined and seven other facilities will be expanded as some production capacity from affected facilities is transferred to them, the company said.

2. OMG!
This is my neck of the woods, although corporate is located in Dallas. Ohhhh, I best not complain about my job, because there'll be hundreds standing in line for it. The Valley has taken quite a hit lately with paper company's closing, now K-C!

It expects cost savings of $300 million to $350 million annually by 2009, and will use the funds to improve its diaper business, speed growth in emerging markets like India and China, move its health-care business into higher-margin items and increase spending on product development.

8. How many this week?
Lots of job cuts announced since Monday. Must be at least 50,000. Better build some more Wal-Marts to provide "good" opportunities to the newly unemployed.

Franklin approves site plan for store
Wal-Mart Supercenter to be 9th in 3-county area
By Stephanie Irwin

Dayton Daily News

FRANKLIN | City planning officials gave conditional approval of a site plan for a Wal-Mart Supercenter along Ohio 73, Chief Building Official Don Woods confirmed Thursday. The plan shows a 208,000-square-foot supercenter on 25 acres west of Interstate 75 near the intersection of Ohio 73 and Wellsbridge Drive. The location is the first for Franklin and the ninth Wal-Mart Supercenter built or under construction in a three-county area. RG Properties filed site plans with Franklin's planning commission in October, and they were approved in March, he said. RG Properties officials were not available Thursday to comment on details for the location.

Plan for other supercenters were recently announced for Xenia, near the Dayton Mall in Miami Twp. and Miller Lane. Two supercenters recently opened on Wilmington Pike in Sugarcreek Twp. and in Englewood.

12. It's a retail pyramid scheme
Retail is the only thing keeping us afloat. People have to buy stuff but of course need some kind of job in order to have any purchasing power. As downsizing and offshoring gain steam, what is the solution?

Build supercenters!

Construction provides jobs. The stores employ lots of people. Now these people are earning money that they can spend at other stores. The more stores you build, the more jobs and the more stuff people can buy. On so on and so on.

...until it all collapses since there's no foundation supporting this "new economy".
