ARG Poll: Bush Approval 42%
7/22

George W. Bush's job approval ratings remain unchanged from June even as Americans are less pessimistic about the future of the economy and their household financial situations.

Approve 42% Disapprove 52% Dunno 6%

Economy: 38% Disapprove 54% Whu? 8%

Conducted 7/18 through 7/21.

http://americanresearchgroup.com/

Considering that the Kool Aid drinking right would probably support this incompetent fool no matter how many things he screws up, 42% could be close to the approval floor. It is the exact same number ARG came up with on 6/22.

2. I think the floor will be more like 25%

...based on the "Fire Rove" poll earlier. They may be brainwashed, but some of them have the capacity to think for themselves. Too bad they didn't use it in 2004.

4. This poll is dated 7/21.

So, they had to gather the data before the contemplated perjury/obstruction charges hit the media yesterday. Is that correct? How much time between the polling and the reporting of the polling?

Also, isn't ARG usually slanted in favor of bush, like Rasmussen?

16. I think ARG is pretty unbiased
But I agree the Rove scandal will send his numbers lower, especiallg when indictments come.

13. the same thing that got him elected
America has never unseated a "war" president. And Rove knew that and sold Bush as the Commander in Chief. It was just enough along with the evangelicals to squeak him back into a second term.
And there is still a percentage of Americans who don't think we should criticize a "war" president.
But this is getting to be a bit thorny for Bush.
He wants the "war" president support...but he doesn't want us reminded -- too much -- about what war really means. Like flag draped coffins. And dead Iraqi children.
The Bushies managed to obscure the reality long enough to push Bush over the finish line during the election...but Americans are getting restless.
And the London bombings have seriously damaged the Bushian war on terror. Even the most formerly staunch Bush supporters are beginning to waver.
It really does look as though this administration is floundering.

20. Nice post.
Yes, war is the transfusion that this anemic president needed.

War can sustain a president's numbers for a long, long time (cf. Nixon).

14. The w-hore ogn Terra Rizem

http://www.pollingreport.com/terror.htm

Bush's polling approval 'ceiling' is set by people trusting how he's 'handling terrorism'. (No, no one quite knows what that means specifically, it's vague and not real rational.)
The London attack spiked Bush's overall rating to that ceiling (54-57% then) for what appears to be a single day (if you look at enough polls) and collapsed back to where it was before.

Every such attack spikes his overall rating to that ceiling but when it collapses it takes some of that 'ceiling' with it. This attack has had his 'handling terrorism' approval rating has fallen 5-8% rather abruptly to within a point to either side of 48%. (I don't know whether it has hit bottom yet, either. I'm hoping for another 5-8% of falloff.) If you look closely at the list of pollings in the link above, the Madrid bombings took Bush's 'handling terrorism' ratings down from close to 70 to around 57... a drop of 10-13%. But his ratings on the topic hold pretty steady between attacks.

There now isn't any policy area left where Bush can 'stay the course' (which he has to because of his dependence on hardliners, who will revolt and drag him down if he doesn't) yet recover ratings that are over 50%. The London attack has finally and truly made it entirely a lame duck, defensive, Presidency. The Bush Presidency and its caboose, the Republican Congress, are now unavoidably vulnerable. They have to play for time now, distract and obfuscate as much as possible.

Zogby is ruined after he was wrong on the election results. Maybe some people bought that, or at least the right people.

8. How does this compare to other recent second-term presidents?
...i.e., Clinton and Reagan.

There was a Du-er who used to post a graph comparing the different presidents' approval ratings at specific points in their terms of office.

I would love to see that chart now... particularly since no doubt Chimpy lags behind both Bill and Ronnie at this point in the second term.

21. LOL!!
The "don't know"'s that I've met, fall into several categories:

1) I don't care because it hurts my head to think about it; and

2) I don't care because it's all bullshit and I'm above it all.

3) Sure I'll answer your questions but I won't give you any answers.
