Bill Clinton Aims to Help Treat Kenyan Children for H.I.V.
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: July 24, 2005

NAIROBI, Kenya, July 23 (AP) - Former President Bill Clinton on Saturday began a program aimed at nearly doubling the number of children receiving treatment for H.I.V. infection in Kenya this year.

Some 100,000 children are infected with H.I.V., the virus that causes AIDS, but only 1,200 of them receive treatment. The Clinton Foundation Pediatric H.I.V./AIDS Initiative will provide treatment to an additional 1,000 children in Kenya, in East Africa.

The initiative is part of the Clinton Foundation's goal of treating 10,000 children with antiretroviral drugs in at least 10 countries this year.

Mr. Clinton has raised money from private donors led by the Children's Investment Fund Foundation, a London-based charity that pays for projects to improve the lives of children in poor countries.

Lone Pine Capital, an investment fund based in the United States, has also made a substantial contribution....

1. Let's see. How much too little did Bush promise the USA would
do? And how much less than his pathetic offer has he delivered? I think the number is as close to zero as he and Republican Congress can make it. Let's see again. Do not let regular doctors help the poor children with AIDS; they have to be seen by pediatricians. What madness!11

2. Here is the amazing contrast....
Clinton is using his foundation to make sure that vital HIV/AIDS medicines get to those who need it.

Meanwhile, little boy wonder Bush has tied his funding to Africa to abstinence programs!

3. Very cool.
One of my younger brothers is there right now. He has been there almost a month. He is working with the Maasai right now. He is a 3rd year med student and he and 5 classmates went to Kenya to vaccinate/immunize, educate on AIDS/HIV, and do psychological surveys. His e-mails to me have been a pip! He is having fun and said the people are very interesting.

Did anyone see the welcome he (Clinton, not my brother) received? It was wonderful! I can't imagine Shrub ever getting a reception like that from any group, except maybe the Klan or Rethugs.

4. Good for President Clinton
Has any recent Repub president or ex-president done anything other than that which would enrich him personally? Presidents Clinton and Carter will leave a legacy of having made life better for a lot of people.
