U.S. Soldier Killed in Attack in Southern Afghanistan

KABUL (Reuters) - A U.S. soldier was killed and another wounded in an attack by suspected Taliban guerrillas in southern Afghanistan on Sunday, a U.S. military spokesman said.

At least one militant was killed and two wounded in the clash in Helmand province, Lieutenant-Colonel Jerry O'Hara said, adding that an Afghan interpreter for U.S. forces was also wounded.

And according to icausualties.org, we've lost 59 servicemen and women in that nation this year--213 altogether since 2001. Combined with losses in Iraq, we'll soon see the 2000th fatality in the "war on Terror" (The total today is 1,988)
