WASHINGTON - Early in his first run for the White House, George W. Bush traveled to Palo Alto and told high-tech executives that he understood their industry and ``this incredible land called Silicon Valley.''

``It's a piece of the spirit of America,'' Bush told 500 people at a $1,000-a-plate breakfast in July 1999. ``It not only talks about new technologies that shape our lives, but it speaks about daring and enterprise and the ultimate American Dream.''

Now, six months into his second term, some executives in Silicon Valley question whether Bush and key members of his administration really do ``get it'' when it comes to high tech.

They complain -- usually privately -- about a lack of accomplishment on some major policy issues and a broader lack of focus on what they consider a unique sector of the U.S. economy. Increasingly, high-tech executives are turning to Congress to try to address their needs.

``Our expectations may have been too high . . . but I certainly can't say this has been a high-tech administration,'' said one industry lobbyist, who noted he is a Republican and spoke only on the condition of anonymity because he feared upsetting the White House.

Huh? GOP lobbyists are :scared: about "upsetting the WH?

3. Yup, he did. Ripped them off the same as the Fundies. That's
what they get for not being reality-based! All they had to do was look at what he did rather than what he said. But they are believers and not reality based so they didn't look. Texas was a perfect picture of what he does vs what he says he does.

4. Yes we're living the dream now!
* has done so much for our state. Terrible underfunded schools, soaring tuition rates for the state colleges, steps back on the environment, the largest number of uninsured children in the nation. All in all, *'s record as governor has been one of non-accomplishment and back sliding on past gains.

8. Would seem obvious to me...
an administration that is so anti-intellectual and anti-science could not possibly understand the need of the high tech sector. Thanks to this administration developing nations may soon have the lead in technological development. This administration has the habit of rewriting conclusions they don't like instead of putting people together to find the best solutions to the problem. That could also have a chilling effect on the development of useful technology.

10. Duuuuuhhhhh !
...just what did they expect from an "administration" that predicates its entire philosophy, marketing, and political strategies to the lowest common denominator of intellect?

...just what did they expect from an "administration" whose stated and direct goals are to return us to their ideal decade of the fifties. The only question being 18 or 19 fifties?

...just what did they expect from an "administration" whose figurehead was a failed businessman many times, a "legacy" college graduate who never actually earned better than a C grade, and a boy who can't even put two related thoughts together in a succinct, meaningful statement that is grammatically appropriate?

...and just what did they expect from an "administration" whose biggest pals were firmly routed in fossil fuels - fossil being a highly telling characterization of both the energy source and the level of sophistication in their ability at intellectually dynamic thinking.

You got what you deserve you ignorant, soulless, selfish trolls.

15. "Elections have consequences"
Looks like the repugs are beginning to see this.

I love throwing this line in the face of my Limbaugh-Insanity-O'Leilly loving sister when she bitches about some government service or agency being slow. I say, "Well, elections have consequences. You voted for smaller government and lower taxes and guess what? You got it." Usually, she shuts me down although sometimes I can get in a dig about how smaller government means smaller staff which translates into longer waits.

Edited on Sun Jul-24-05 02:38 PM by fortyfeetunder
Now Clinton had a clue about science and technology, but alas, he had an affair and scarred the country.

So in the quest to erase the Clinton legacy, all those executives probably voted Republican via * brought decency and honor back to the executive branch of the government...Did they have a clue that * is an anti-intellectual? A failed oil company * managed should have been a clue..

And I introduce the orchestra to perform "Too Effing Bad, You Was Had"!

25. Hello, America? Bush Doesn't Get ANYTHING!
The man is incapable of taking in information. He lives inside his very small and misshappen skull, in his very small and misshappen life, and his very protected, unreal world.

He's trashed your country, our country, completely. Hilter and Tojo couldn't do that. Hoover couldn't (although he tried and had lots of help in high places).

And believe me, the 60's didn't, not even close.

So get the message, and get on the program

IMPEACH BUSH NOW!
