'Enemies of humanity' quote raises Iraq PR questions
Edited on Sun Jul-24-05 04:56 PM by pazarus
Sorry if this has been posted. I just saw it on CNN, and I didn't see it here yet.

link to CNN

Following are the two quotes as provided by the U.S. military in news releases:

Sunday's news release said: "'The terrorists are attacking the infrastructure, the ISF and all of Iraq. They are enemies of humanity without religion or any sort of ethics. They have attacked my community today and I will now take the fight to the terrorists,' said one Iraqi man who preferred not to be identified."

The July 13 news release said: "'The terrorists are attacking the infrastructure, the children and all of Iraq,' said one Iraqi man who preferred not to be identified. 'They are enemies of humanity without religion or any sort of ethics. They have attacked my community today and I will now take the fight to the terrorists.'"

It's a story about the PR campaign being waged by the Bush administration being exposed by a little accident, where they used a supposed quote from an Iraqi on the scene. Problem is, this Iraqi was a little too much on message, as his words are exactly the same as the ones at a previous attack site weeks before.

Unless the Republicans have been over there training them on talking points, it seems clear the army is just pulling stock quotes, and who knows who really wrote them.

6. at least they are doing an internal investigation
of this incident. Those are worthwhile. I'm sure it was isolated--you know, bad apples are everywhere. Some punk kid decided to make a PR decision and modify a quote. Those ranks are just full of bad apples, they'll have us believe while they give out crooked orders.

4. Reminiscent of all those pro-Iraq identical letters to editors by soldiers
This incident reminds me of the discovery of that rash of identical letters to the editor printed by various papers around the country signed by different military personnel that extolled all the good things the soldiers were doing in Iraq. The Administration's propaganda efforts are shameless and pervasive.

7. I remember that
When Bush's military and intelligence officials get caught, they don't even care. They figure, "The American people are stupidy anyway, so any screw up will mostly be ignored as the sheep follow."

She's now going to Murikanize Muslims across the world, to fuel and fan the flames for BeezleBush's holy war.

Turd polishing is beneath her now. This will be delegated to General Myers.

12. 'Enemies of humanity' quote raises Iraq PR questions
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The U.S. military on Sunday said it was looking into how virtually identical quotations ended up in two of its news releases about different insurgent attacks.

Following a car bombing in Baghdad on Sunday, the U.S. military issued a statement with a quotation attributed to an unidentified Iraqi that was virtually identical to a quote reacting to an attack on July 13.

After questioning by news media, the military released the statement without the quotation.

Lt. Col. Clifford Kent, spokesman for the U.S. Army's 3rd Infantry Division, said use of the quote was an "administrative error." He said the military was looking into the matter.

30. It's insulting. Look at the grammar, look at the diction.
No contractions, nothing that indicates anyone actually spokes these words. There isn't a single culture marker, either.

And, the statement begins and ends with the buzz word, "terrorists".

Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf or as he's better known to some - Comical Ali or The Iraqi Information Minister.

Who'd have guessed that when he was captured it wasn't to ask him if he knew where the WMD's were, it was to give him a job.
