Some Vets Condemn 'Wedding Crashers' Site
Edited on Sun Jul-24-05 06:09 PM by tuvor
DENVER - Some military veterans and law enforcement officials are angry about a Web site promoting Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn's comedy "Wedding Crashers."

To win the affections of attractive bridesmaids in the movie, two fun-loving partiers pretend to be Purple Heart recipients.

New Line Cinema's movie Web site includes a fake, paper Purple Heart to cut out, with the spoof: "Carrying a Purple Heart in your jacket guarantees you attention, admiration and plenty of free booze."

"I challenge the producer of that movie to go to Walter Reed Hospital and walk through the ward and see if he still wants to print out a fake Purple Heart," said Thomas Cottone, Jr., a special agent with the FBI who enforces a federal law that prohibits wearing, manufacturing, buying, selling or trading a Medal of Honor.

ON EDIT: FYI, the headline says "Some Vets" but only one is cited.

14. OK, who photoshopped the Hitler button on her hat?
Good job.

Almost subliminal.

Just make her teeth more brown and add a nasty grayish outline along the gums.

7. They're complaining about the wrong people...Wilson and Vaughn....
...are in a comedy production, while Bush and Cheney have produced a never-ending horror show.

Hey, Special Agent Cottone, Jr., don't you have anything more important to do, like assisting with Fitzgerald's investigation?

When in fact Bush was disgracefully AWOL from the Texas Air National Guard.

12. Oh and it is ok for Karl Rove and the the swiftboat vets to distribute
Purple Heart Band-Aids at the RNC....

>Hopefully, none of the troops over there were able to watch the coverage of the Republican convention on Monday night. Salted through the audience were a number of conventioneers wearing band-aids with little purple hearts on them. This was, of course, an extension of the gutter war being waged against Democratic candidate John Kerry’s Vietnam record.

Some 3,700 Purple Heart medals have been awarded to soldiers fighting in Operation Iraqi Freedom, with more than 3,000 still wending through the process before they can be pinned to the breasts of soldiers missing a chunk of their body. The message emanating from Madison Square Garden is obvious: Not only is the President blitheringly unclear on what is supposedly the central mission of his administration, but his own supporters have nothing but disdain for anyone wounded in combat.

If you think Bush and his White House have nothing to do with that disgusting display on the convention floor on Monday night, and have nothing to do with the Swift Boat Veterans group that appears to have made insulting combat veterans the new hip style among Republicans, think again.

A GOP staffer told Newsweek reporter Elanor Clift this past week that the Swift Boat strategy “came straight from the West Wing,” specifically from Bush hatchet-man Karl Rove. “Nobody,” he said, “should be confused.” The GOP staffer called those who have done this “political terrorists,” stating, “They know what to do - it’s like sleeper cells that get activated.”

In other words, nauseating activities like the Swift Boat smears and the Purple Heart Band-Aid-wearing cretins do not bubble up from the slime of their own accord. This is standard-issue East Texas political assassination, and the smell of it trails all the way from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to the doorstep of this Republican convention. This is leadership from the top down, Bush-style.<

People don't care about truth in life, but truth in fiction really gets 'em going.

You've finally figured out what I've been misunderstanding all this time. Thanks.

another fucking chickenhawk getting his hackles raised about military matters when he never actually served himself?

17. Last time I checked...
"The Wedding Crashers" was a work of FICTION.

It's a joke, son! They're not REALLY making fake Purple Hearts!

Geez...I hope to God this guy doesn't see "War of the Worlds". I'd hate to see the man hysterical and adrenaline poisoned as he tears out of the theater screaming, "Save me from the giant pods!!!!!"

The magic of Hollywood is obviously too much for some people.
