White House Warns Dems on Roberts Papers

WASHINGTON - The White House on Monday warned Democrats not to make extensive requests for Supreme Court nominee John Roberts' legal writings in previous Republican administrations, saying many such documents are "out of bounds."

Separately, the Supreme Court nominee waved off questions about whether he was a member of a conservative legal organization. Roberts, on his fourth day paying courtesy calls on senators, hasn't answered questions since President Bush announced him _ as is typical for nominees _ and one Democratic senator said the matter wouldn't affect the confirmation.

With Bush's first chance to shape the Supreme Court at stake, the White House is hoping to avoid the kind of showdown with Democrats over document requests that has stymied Senate confirmation of some of the president's other high-profile nominees. Asked repeatedly to say whether the administration was open to making Roberts' writings as a former administration lawyer available, White House press secretary Scott McClellan avoided saying "no" outright.

"We want to work with the members of the Senate to make sure that they have the appropriate information so that they can do their job," McClellan said.

5. White House acting like the school yard bullies they are
I hope the Democrats have the balls to punch them in the nose.

Kerry has requested documents that are needed to ascertain Roberts's qualifications for the Supreme Court. Roberts's sudden memory loss about his leadership position in the rightwing Federalist Society should give pause to all of us.

7. They have traitors up the wazoo on staff in the Bush White House, and
they are worried about the American people learning all there is to know about Judge Frenchfry.

Whacked, totally whacked. The Republicans need a colossal enema.

8. Bush tends to forget that he is not as popular as he used to be
after 9/11, so the adoring public rushing to his side won't materialize. Plus if he appoints Bolton during the recess, then definitely all bets and gloves are even further off.

Look, assholes, you're talking about a LIFETIME appointment to the highest court in the land for someone whose public track record is skimpy at best. We need to see what this guy's DONE, not what he thinks will get him the gig.

What a high-handed bunch of thugs.

EVERYTHING he's ever done or proposed is not only fair game but should be required.

17. They're "warning" the Democrats?
This from the same bunch that claimed there was no attorney-client privilege during the Clinton years between any attorney who derived any income from government work and any White House staff. Ken Starr, naturally, was happy to oblige and destroyed any semblance of "privileged" communications in the White House!

Now, the White House is "warning" the Democrats that document requests are "out of bounds"??? I wonder if the talking chuckleheads in the librul media will be in similarly full cry about breaking down assertions of White House privilege as they were eight years ago?

Or did 9/11 change that, too?
