Some papers pull, edit 'Doonesbury' strip (Rove="turd blossom")

Some papers pull, edit 'Doonesbury' strip

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - About a dozen newspapers have objected to use of toilet humor in Tuesday's and Wednesday's "Doonesbury" comic strip, and some either pulled or edited the strip.
Kansas City-based Universal Press Syndicate, which distributes the strip to around 1,400 newspapers, said it had received some complaints from editors about a reference to presidential aide Karl Rove.

In the strip, a caricature of President Bush refers to Rove as "turd blossom."

Lee Salem, editor at Universal Press, said the complaints, from 10 to 12 newspapers, weren't unexpected, given the concerns many editors have about language in the funny papers. But as opposed to other times when editors have objected to Doonesbury content, the syndicate did not send out replacement strips.

"Given the coverage of Karl Rove, we thought it was appropriate, especially given the history of the strip," Salem said.

1. That's idiot son's nickname
for him. If the "alleged" president can call him that, then so can anyone else.

30. It's not an insult to Rove...
He's turd blossom because he can take a pile of sh*t and make a flower sprout from it. It's actually a compliment if you think about it.

I love how the article never mentions that "Turd Blossom" is the actual nickname that Bush calls Rove. :eyes:

11. I think this is good news.
Let the radical morality police pull the strip because of the 'Turd Blossom' name. Then, the ensuing publicity will educate the masses that their 'president' nicknamed his long-time aide (and his own brain), 'Turd Blossom'. Which will present quite a dilemma for the morality fundamentalists; how do they express their outrage that their pet president uses profanity?

It's perfectly ok for Bush to use profanity. He's the Second Coming of Christ.......he can do and say anything he wants. It's only the "Little People" who aren't permitted to use this disgusting language.

You remember the "Little People"? The ones who pay taxes, lol?

43. It was just "double secret probation"
Between Greg Marmalard, president of Omega House, and Dean Wormer, dean of Faber College:

'Greg, what is the worst fraternity on campus?'

"That would be hard to say, Dean Wormer. They're each outstanding in their own way..."

'Cut the shit, son. I've got their disciplinary files right here. Who dumped a whole truckload of fizzies into the swim meet? Who had the medical school cadavers delivered to the alumni dinner. Every spring the trees are filled with underwear. Every Halloween, the toilets explode.'

"You're talking about Delta..."

'Of COURSE I'm talking about Delta, you TWERP! But this year it's going to be different. This year we're going to take the bull by the balls and kick those punks off campus.'

"But Dean Wormer, what are we going to do? They're already on probation."

'They are?'

"Yes, Dean Wormer."

'Then from this moment they're on Double Secret Probation!"

"Double...secret probation?"

'There is a little-known codicil in the Faber constitution that gives the dean unlimited power to act in times of campus emergency. Find me a way to revoke Delta's charter. You live next door! Put Neidermeyer on it! He's a sneaky little shit just like you, right? It's time somebody put his foot down. And that foot is me.'

51. Nope. I've probably seen that movie 500 times.
When I was in Korea, the entire company I was in was so in love with that movie, we went to Itaewon, found a woodcarver, had him make the Delta Tau Chi crest into a plaque, and hung it on the barracks door. And the funny part is, the 8th Army inspector general thought it was our unit crest. (The INSCOM IG knew exactly what it was; this guy walked through the door, looked at the DTX crest and just died laughing right there.)

It doesn't even have to be controversial in any real way, but if it pokes fun at their guys, they get all worked up.

Ann Coulter and Michael Weiner aren't controversial, in their world, even when they are calling for terrorists to blow up the NYT building or for all liberals to be arrested and prosecuted as traitors. Go and figure.

24. Wonder if they were a distributor of this Bill Press column?'Turd Blossom'
'Turd Blossom' In Full Flower: Traitor In The White House

Nixon had Watergate. Reagan, Contragate. Clinton, Monicagate. Now George W. Bush has own scandal: Turdgate. Named after Karl Rove, the top White House aide whom Bush calls “Turd Blossom” — a term of endearment unique to Texas.
http://www.billpress.com/columns/071405.html

I know he's syndicated - just don't know how far and wide.
And I have to admit being surprised it was printed in my local paper.
He uses the word so many times you just know he did it on purpose and it does just what it was supposed to.

45. Well let's all just start calling it Turd-gate and see how much attention
we can get! It does make one stop and pay attention, don'it?

more from article:
"The big question is: Now that we know, without a doubt, it was Karl Rove who spilled the beans, why does he still have a job at the White House? President Bush promised to fire anyone involved in the Valerie Plame leak. Why he hasn’t fired Rove?

We know the answer. Bush can’t fire Karl Rove. Without Turd Blossom, who would pull the puppet strings?"

That's what a lot of us have said...we'll be left with Bush without Bush's brain.

This is absolutely ridiculous.

Just type "Turd Blossom" in in Google and see how many sources have published the fact that this is Bush's nickname for "Boy Genius" when things are not going well.

In FACT, this was revealed in a Time magazine article from 2001!!!

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,107219,00.html

From the article:

"In a 30-year career, Rove, 50, has worked on hundreds of Republican races throughout the country. So when Bush sits down with congressional leaders, he can nod at Rove and say, "You all know the Boy Genius," and they all do. (Bush's other nickname for Rove is less flattering: Turd Blossom.)"

So it's hardly news!!!

49. to reach all classes, avoid VULGARITIES
Edited on Wed Jul-27-05 01:11 AM by oscar111
for many of us, vulgarities recall the rough types in the back of tenth grade class.. who were the bullies, and went on to become rednecks and RW types as adults.

So such fecal or gas language is irritating and puts the speaker somehow down and lower than most folks.

I know this is cultural and a bit arbitrary, but there it is.

when you want to reach a lot of folks, stay polite in the words used. You can still convey outrage.
