Coleman to propose stem cell bill, breaking with Bush

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Sen. Norm Coleman said Tuesday he will introduce legislation that would make stem cell lines taken from embryos since President's Bush's 2001 ban available for federal funding, marking a major shift with the White House.

"This is an attempt to find common ground between science and pro-life," Coleman, R-Minn., said in an interview with The Associated Press.

Four years ago, Bush banned federal funding for embryonic stem cell research on lines not already developed by Aug. 9, 2001. In essence, Coleman is proposing to move that deadline to today.

"He's drawn a line in the sand that's not pro-science," Coleman said of Bush. "We don't want to be the party that's anti-science. We're not finding real hope" for cures.

3. That's encouraging!
Slowly, they're starting to break away and come to their senses. I mean who wants to be associated with people who don't believe in evolution despite scientific proof? Or deny reality for that matter?!

11. Oh, PLEASE...!
>>Slowly, they're starting to break away and come to their senses.<<

"Come to their senses"???

NORM THE WEASEL????

Last I checked, hell hadn't frozen over, pigs weren't airborne, the Pope was still Catholic, etc.

I will bet LARGE sums of money on the certainty that this gesture has been carefully-vetted by the GOPpie leadership for the purposes of:

a) Buying weasel-boy some re-electable credit with his liberal Minnesota constituency; or

b) Floating a trial balloon that will either ferret out potential GOPpie traitors and weaklings OR provide political cover to the GOPpies in the face of overwhelming pressure to do something rational on this issue; or

c) Both (yes, they're capable of believing six impossible and mutually contradictory things before breakfast, that's why they're GOPpies.)

But it in NO WAY reflects any genuine conscience or compassion on weasel-boy's part, because HE HASN'T GOT ANY of either one.

prognosticatorially,
Bright

12. Perhaps, it's personal and
someone he knows and cares about is really sick with something that stem cell treatment could help.

4. he only breaks with bush when he knows the repubs have the votes
to kill his proposal. He thinks it makes him look good to Minnesotans, but we have him nailed - he does this too often.

5. Exactly. He'd never break with Bush & Rove
unless he knows there's no risk in doing so.

Weasel sack of shit.

9. With Repukes, that's almost always the case.
They never see the need for anything until THEY need it.

10. He's up for re-election. Duh
He'll float this out there making himself appear all reasonable. Then if nothing happens he can at least say he tried.

He's an opportunistic pig.

My question is where has he been on this issue during the last 4 years? Has he been an outspoken opponent of BushCo or has he jusyt recently taken on this position.
