BAGHDAD, July 27 (Xinhuanet) -- A mortar round explosion at a crowded garage in central Baghdad on Wednesday left three civilians dead and 37 wounded, police said.

The blast occurred shortly after midday at the back gate of theAlawi garage in central Baghdad, killing three civilians and wounding 37 others," an interior ministry source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity, adding that 27 cars were also damaged.

The target of the attack was likely to be the nearby heavily fortified Green Zone, home to the Iraqi government and the US embassy, he added.
