Ex-CIA agent sues to publish Tora Bora account
Officer who helped lead mission says CIA is blocking publication of his book

Updated: 3:40 a.m. ET July 28, 2005
WASHINGTON - The CIA is squelching publication of a new book detailing events leading up to Osama bin Laden’s escape from his Tora Bora mountain stronghold during the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan, says a former CIA officer who led much of the fighting.

In a story he says he resigned from the agency to tell, Gary Berntsen recounts the attacks he coordinated at the peak of the fighting in eastern Afghanistan in late 2001, including how U.S. commanders knew bin Laden was in the rugged mountains near the Pakistani border and the al-Qaida leader’s much-discussed getaway.

Berntsen claims in a federal court lawsuit that the CIA is over-classifying his manuscript and has repeatedly missed deadlines written into its own regulations to review his book. His attorney, Roy Krieger, said he delivered papers to the U.S. District Court in Washington after hours Wednesday.

Berntsen’s book is one of a handful written recently by former CIA officers who have wrestled with the agency over what could be published.

4. most of its for "fallback" positions, spreading new "truth"
it works better if a ex-cia guy exposes a lie and gives us a new lie to replace the one we didnt believe in than if the government just changes the lie one day.
For some reason people believe EVERYTHING ex-liars say when they expose a lie everyone has suspected for a long time.

3. Interesting: Bernsten is a Bush supporter, and the CIA is blocking him
Wonder if the two details are related.

5. Well, we already know that this Ex-CIA agent's story ...
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 05:20 AM by ElectroPrincess
is NOT true. Why? Because that highly esteemed, USA Medal of Honor awardee, yes! Our Dear War(lord) General Tommy Franks told us at the run-up to this last Presidential Campaign that *outstanding operations* took place in Tora Bora. Also, please do recall that Ole' Tommy further emphasized that Osama Bin Forgotton did NOT necessarily slip through our grasp. He made the above points known time and time again while stumping for our Chimperor's reelection. :P

Now if General Tommy Franks, shameless promoter of Bush-Co and the PNAC agenda, says this EX-CIA Agent is lying ... then damn! He MUST be lying! Don't these damn leftist Govt pukes realize that Our Dear Leaders are only trying to protect us?

So tell this spook to STFU and learn to love Big Brother Bush-Co ... or else!?! :sarcasm:

On Edit: When I consider this "Bush Supporter Info" linked with this Ex-CIA Agent, you might be onto something Monkie. Perhaps our Govt would consider packaging such a collage. Kudos for potential angle / another perspective! :tinfoilhat:

6. FBI agent's book blocked from publication
"At the very same time I am discovering this about Ptech, because their meeting with me and JP Morgan Chase was at the end of May, at the very same time, on May 30th, 2002, Agent Robert Wright of the Chicago FBI at a congressional hearing appeared on the steps of the Capital and burst into tears apologizing to the 9/11 families stating his investigation into terrorism financing had been repeatedly shut down and he had been censured for pushing it. Actually his investigation was exactly into Yassin Al-Qadi who he called bin Laden's banker. Wright's investigation was shut down in the late 90s. He stated that if he had been able to continue and shut down the funding to al Qaeda, 9/11 may not have happened. His original quote was it would not have happened."

Robert Wright wrote a book about his experiences, titled "Confidential - Obstruction". The FBI is blocking publication.
