No Change, Bush Remains Below 50% in U.S.


(Angus Reid Global Scan) – George W. Bush keeps a steady level of public support in the United States, according to a poll by Gallup released by CNN and USA Today. 49 per cent of respondents approve of the president’s performance.

Bush—a Republican—earned a second four-year term in the November 2004 presidential election. In his Jul. 16 radio address, Bush outlined four key domestic proposals to enhance economic growth: the pending energy bill, the ratification of the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), a "fiscally responsible highway bill that modernizes roads and bridges, improves safety and opens up new job opportunities" and Social Security reform.

On Jul. 22 in Georgia, Bush discussed his Social Security reform proposals, saying, "I’ll be frank with you, some people are playing politics with the issue there. They just don’t, simply, want to do anything."

During his re-election campaign, Bush vowed to reform the Social Security system. The president has proposed allowing workers to divert up to four per cent of their Social Security taxes into personal accounts that could be invested in stocks and bonds.

Now that he's a lame(r) duck, bush's ratings can be in the single digits, and he doesn't have jack shit to worry about. He's got his, his top supporters have theirs, now he just has to get a handful of appeals court judges and two or more supreme court justices in place to uphold the neo-con power grab.

The American people have spoken through the mouth of Diebold, and declared to the world that we are IDIOTS. All the low poll numbers in the world can't touch bush now. In order to hurt him at this point, he'd have to face direct opposition from the senate, now packed with even more republican bullshit artists than in 2004.

Even now, the Democrats have shown little willingness (and even less acumen) to take advantage of the low polls to press for a congressional advantage. Every time a Dean or a Conyers gets serious about fighting republican corruption and fascism, they're immediately undercut by a Lieberman or a Nelson. If republicans had this problem back in 1994, they'd be the minority party today.

they can't lie enough to get his numbers over 50%. But in truth, the numbers are still too high at 41%. My survey in shopping lines and airport lines and phone calls with strangers put it at a lowly 20%.
