MI5 links 7/7 bombings to Britain’s Iraq campaign

London: Britain’s MI5 has acknowledged, that the London bomb attacks were linked to England’s participation in the Iraq campaign.

It said that the Iraq campaign has become “a dominant issue” for Islamic extremists in Britain, and has provided an extra motivating force for terrorists to wage war against the English Isles.

“Though they have a range of aspirations and ‘causes’, Iraq is a dominant issue for a range of extremist groups and individuals in the UK and Europe,” The Times quoted the MI5’s official website under the heading “Threat to the UK from international terrorism”, as saying.

“Some individuals who support the insurgency are known to have travelled to Iraq in order to fight against coalition forces. It is possible that they may return to the UK and consider mounting attacks here,” the website added.
