Court Reinstates Hatfill Suit Vs. Times

McLEAN, Va. -- A federal appeals court has reinstated a libel suit against the New York Times filed by a former Army scientist who claims one of the paper's columnists unfairly linked him to the deadly anthrax mailings in 2001.

Steven Hatfill sued the Times for a series of columns written by Nicholas Kristof that faulted the FBI for failing to thoroughly investigate Hatfill for the anthrax mailings that left five people dead.

The initial columns identified Hatfill only as "Mr. Z," but subsequent columns named him after Hatfill stepped forward to deny any role in the killings. Federal authorities labeled Hatfill "a person of interest" in their investigation.

But the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond overturned the rule Thursday on a 2-1 vote, saying that Kristof's columns, taken as a whole, might be considered defamatory.

"A reasonable reader of Kristof's columns likely would conclude that Hatfill was responsible for the anthrax mailings," wrote Judge Dennis Shedd in an opinion joined by Chief Judge William Wilkins.

1. The anthrax was traced to a specific domestic origin.

What happened to the investigation? Was it just dropped?

2. The rumor was it was traced to a

strain from a US weapons lab, which is why they started looking at Hatfill.

They can find no evidence on him and don't want to admit that the anthrax was from a bioweapons project.

4. Anthrax...the most under-reported investigation, in a long time. Anthrax

after 9/11 is probably the "key" to it ALL...but no one has had the balls to go after it.

And, all those micro-biologists who died under "very strange" circumstances. Even Judith Miller had someone who used "fake white powder" to give her CREDIBILITY!

Follow the Anthrax and it's like "follow the money."

It's interesting none of our "Crime Shows" have gotten into this. The "Florida Tabloid" reporter who was killed with anthrax where they shut down the "National Enquirer" building for YEARS because of the Antrax threat... So many interesting things after 9/11. Peter Jennings and and the Senate evacuated because of Anthrax scares...more and more.

yet...to this day...NO ONE is HELD ACCOUTABLE. They can find every terrorist within a week after they "suicide bomb," but no Anthrax Criminal even when they write a note and post stuff from New Jersey postal station and cause multiple deaths.... Our FBI just can't seem to find hand writing experts or any fingerprint as to who the Anthrax killers are. :shrug:

It does make one wonder...
