Reporter Judith Miller enters fifth week in jail

Associated Press Writer

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- When August arrives in the nation's capital, Washingtonians stay inside to avoid the steamy heat. After almost a month in jail, New York Times reporter Judith Miller says she would like nothing better than to get outdoors.

"She joked that the swampy, humid air of Washington smelled as sweet as could be" on the couple of occasions she was allowed outside at the Alexandria Detention Center, said Times managing editor Jill Abramson, who visited Miller last week.

Miller was jailed July 6 for civil contempt for refusing to testify to the grand jury investigating the leak of the identity of an undercover CIA officer, Valerie Plame. Prosecutors want Miller to divulge to whom she spoke while doing reporting.

....

Zacarias Moussaoui, the only person convicted in connection with the Sept. 11 attacks, has been at the jail for more than three years. Six rooms are allotted to him and his voluminous court materials as he prepares for a sentencing trial next year.

3. And it hasn't restored to life a single US soldier out of the 2000
killed, killed in great part to the lies she spewed that took us into an illegal war; it hasn't undone the maiming suffered by tens of thousands, nor has it resurrected the 25,000 Iraqis who have been murdered by bushco in their illegal little bloodfest.

I hope she rots in there.

4. News - hundreds of thousands of people have spent more than
just 5 weeks in jail - have you done a story on them?

Idiots - she broke the law - this is not news, it is whining.

7. LOL! In light of the fact
that a man was just released from 19 yrs in prison after DNA cleared him of a rape he didn't commit.

When she's endured on that scale, then she can complain.

Guess she's used to peeing in the open by now.

6. That is one scared woman
She can never testify, unless she perjures the snot out of herself. For her to say the truth would mark her as a dead woman from the bloodthirsty conquerers she's helped so much.

Doesn't she know how people who are inconvenient for the bushies wind up getting suicided?

34. How was Kurt Cobain?
How was Michael Hutchense?

Then again, there's Cliff Baxter...J.R. Hatfield...Peter Hartmann

If you want to intimate that Bill Clinton's dirty, you won't find much resistance from me; that he--or Hillary--had anything to do with Foster's death is another matter. Foster's family found this consistent with his deep disillusionment.

Regardless, pointing out that Clinton is no saint doesn't excuse Junior and his mob of the deep and vicious ugliness that is their stock-in-trade.

20. Her husband is so worried...He took a cruise!
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/story/331809p-283554c.html

In a frothy social column yesterday about a celeb-glutted Mediterranean cruise, featuring everyone from Isabella Rossellini to J.K. Rowling aboard the ocean liner Silver Shadow, the New York Sun's A.L. Gordon revealed:

"One passenger with his mind soberly on home is the literary icon Jason Epstein. ... Ms. Miller would have been on the cruise had she not gone to jail."

His wife's in the slammer and he cruises the Med?

Atta boy, hubby!

I wouldn't worry too much about her. She's going to get a nice sweet book deal out of this....I think she'd rather stay in the can a bit longer to add to the drama (And the book sales).

35. I heard "poor Judy" has to sleep on the floor of the jail...
Susan was chained to a toilet in the L.A. County jail for MONTHS!
One thing I will ALWAYS hate the press for is the way they snickered at what Susan was forced to endure because she refused to LIE for Ken Starr. Well, now one of their own is in the same place Susan was, and I hope their mockery of Susan haunts them EVERY night. I hope they charge Judy with CRIMINAL contempt and they throw the book at her!

An interesting wrinkle--little more than such at present, but one never knows. Miller's hope that her little squat will rehabilitate her reputation may be in vain.
