Kim Jong-il hailed as superbrain
Kim Jong-il hailed as superbrain

Justin McCurry in Tokyo
Wednesday August 3, 2005
The Guardian

If weapons inspectors ever get inside North Korea, they will know who to ask for detailed technical reports on the country's nuclear programme - its Dear Leader.

Kim Jong-il, according to a North Korean website, has powers of recall and concentration that even the most cerebral of revolutionary socialists can only dream of.

The website claims that the North Korean president can cite a soldier's entire career faultlessly, never forgets telephone numbers and can memorise computer code.

As soon as he wakes up, Mr Kim apparently undergoes intensive mental training, committing to memory the phone numbers of fellow workers, among other essential data.

1. He is supposed to be smart
and actually a crack shot with the pistol as well.

Batshit (or at least appearing so) he may be.

I still wouldn't rely on his "superbrain" if I were an inspector though...

33. There's a fine line between genius & insanity.
Which side of the line do you think he's on?

And, no doubt N. Korean websites HAVE to say great things about the Dear Leader.

otherwise he would have done something incredibly stupid like attack Japan by now.

and of course it's propaganda from N. Korea! They would write that he farts helium if he demanded it of them!

38. Woah..hold on

"They would write that he farts helium if he demanded it of them!"

You mean he doesn't? Isn't this exactly why the USA is criticizing NK for? Developing a new alternative, natural source of energy?

:sarcasm:

The man has the fate of an entire country, most of it bordering on starvation, in his chubby little hands, and he spends his time memorizing the phone book? Nice.

16. EXACTLY. We need some perspective here...
For all of GWB's faults, no one in this country is literally starving to death. Kim Jong-il, like most despots and tyrants, is about as poor an excuse for a human being as you'll come across.

GWB is bad, but the two don't even compare.

11. Don't think there's been one done -- Lovenstein hoax aside --
But having taken the Tickle (I think that's the name of it)IQ test that appears in pop-up ads, there's no way Bush could get through it. It requires complex thinking -- or at least the capability to think at a level higher than a three-year-old.

13. Comrade Napoleon!
Napoleon was now never spoken of simply as "Napoleon." He was always referred to in formal style as "our Leader, Comrade Napoleon," and this pigs liked to invent for him such titles as Father of All Animals, Terror of Mankind, Protector of the Sheep-fold, Ducklings' Friend, and the like. In his speeches, Squealer would talk with the tears rolling down his cheeks of Napoleon's wisdom the goodness of his heart, and the deep love he bore to all animals everywhere, even and especially the unhappy animals who still lived in ignorance and slavery on other farms. It had become usual to give Napoleon the credit for every successful achievement and every stroke of good fortune. You would often hear one hen remark to another, "Under the guidance of our Leader, Comrade Napoleon, I have laid five eggs in six days"; or two cows, enjoying a drink at the pool, would exclaim, "Thanks to the leadership of Comrade Napoleon, how excellent this water tastes!" The general feeling on the farm was well expressed in a poem entitled Comrade Napoleon, which was composed by Minimus and which ran as follows:

Friend of fatherless!

Fountain of happiness!

Lord of the swill-bucket! Oh, how my soul is on

Fire when I gaze at thy

Calm and commanding eye,

Like the sun in the sky,

Comrade Napoleon!

Thou are the giver of

All that thy creatures love,

Full belly twice a day, clean straw to roll upon;

Every beast great or small

Sleeps at peace in his stall,

Thou watchest over all,

Comrade Napoleon!

Had I a sucking-pig,

Ere he had grown as big

Even as a pint bottle or as a rolling-pin,

He should have learned to be

Faithful and true to thee,

Yes, his first squeak should be

"Comrade Napoleon!"

Napoleon approved of this poem and caused it to be inscribed on the wall of the big barn, at the opposite end from the Seven Commandments. It was surmounted by a portrait of Napoleon, in profile, executed by Squealer in white paint.

The press in North Korea claims that the Dear Leader shot an astounding 36 on the Pyongyang golf course with several holes in one on his first time to ever play the game.

Oh, and he bowled a 300 game when he tried that sport as well.

43. I'm all for it, but...
i don't think it gets us where we want to go. I've been reading these boards for years, and find them enjoyable. I think they do have an impact, as i see the thoughts here echoed by Democratic leaders on the different campaign trails / and news programs.

What i've started to do is think about things differently. What would this board be like had Kerry won? Would we be bouncing different ideas off of each other, or still tying every current event topic back to Bush? I think the former. So i think that is our ticket to success in -06 and -08. What ideas and programs would we be putting forth as Democrats had we won? Put those out there for the mainstream press to consider, and the public will follow. When we get dragged down to the GOP's level, by bickering back and forth and playing the blame game, it leaves us behind.

Just my two cents.

46. I think that you will find plenty of active people who spend many
hours trying to turn around the sorry state of affairs
in this country. Eventually the pendulum will swing, it's a
constant of history. In the interim, a little ole Bush bashing
is good for the soul.

I agree with your perception 100% that the Democratic party appears
to lack this "vision thing" and pretty much operate in reactionary
mode. I am a liberal and tend to vote Democratic, but I am
finished voting for the party if they start becoming Republican-lite.
I will from now on out vote my conscience, even if that means
voting 3rd party.

The people here are fun aren't they! :)

31. Kim is good at what he does,
which is being batshit crazy (though not stupid). I once worked with a guy who lived in South Korea for 13 years and he never ceased to be amazed at how anyone could manage to keep a population of Koreans penniless.

My colleague first went to Korea in the 1970s when he was in the service and it was still pretty poor, but by the time he went back in the early-mid 1990s, he said it looked like Japan. Now that's entrepeneurship (not to mention the shady business practices of the chae-bol). Corruption or not, raising an entire country's standard of living that much indicates that there are a lot of productive, hard-working people busting their asses. That North Korea is so strapped is a testimony to Kim's ability to screw up.
