Three more members of National Guard's 48th killed in Iraq
Three more soldiers from a Georgia National Guard unit have been killed in Iraq -- bringing the total to eleven from that unit in less than two weeks.

Military officials says the three, who were members of the guard's 48th Brigade, were killed yesterday in a car bomb attack. Another was seriously wounded.

More soldiers killed yesterday yet reported for the first time today, which would bring the number of yesterday's killings to 18 by my count.

We're at 27 US killed this month, at nearly 7 per day, while Bush vacations and feigns concern.

1. I am amazed the 14 marines were reported so quickly...
Centcom seems to be dribbling the bad news out. So we are at 1826 already?

RIP... :(

2. The Bushies are delaying the information
if they decide to pass it on to the media at all. They have got to be SO desperate right now.

Did you hear Ray Taliafero today? The 2:00 a.m. hour has him talking to a "lost" vet.

The 4:00 a.m. hour (second half) is an interview w/Joe Wilson--worth a listen. :)

4. Makes you wonder why

Is 18 US dead that much different in the mind of the typical American voter than 14?

At 14 dead, I think that is a record for the number of soldiers killed by a roadside bomb, but more have died in the helo crashes, though perhaps not as many as 18 in one day. That could be a record that the Bushies want to avoid having broadcast.

21. Nobody at MSNBC or FOX can add, eh?
This site has 27 US dead this month, and we're only into Day 4, though I believe that total took place by Day 3, which averages to 9 dead a day. Maybe the Bushies believe that 9-per-day average is beyond the tolerance threshold of most Americans.

Marines Experience Deadly Week in Iraq

By ROBERT H. REID, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 12 minutes ago

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Another American Marine was killed in action in a city in the Euphrates River valley where 14 U.S. Marines died in the deadliest roadside bombing suffered by U.S. forces in the
Iraq war, the U.S. military said.

At least nine Iraqi security personnel were also killed in scattered attacks Thursday, including a car bombing which targeted members of a radical Shiite militia visiting a religious shrine.

The latest Marine casualty was reported from Ramadi, the capital of explosive Anbar province. The Marine, whose name was not released, was killed by small arms fire Wednesday — the same day that 14 Marines and an Iraqi civilian translator died in a huge bombing near Haditha.

That brought to at least 24 the number of Marines killed over the last week in along the Euphrates Valley in one of the bloodiest periods for U.S. forces in months. In all, at least 45 American service members have died in Iraq since July 24 — all but two in combat.......

18. Did they do the math
18 total US dead yesterday?

The US media makes me sick. It did not do its job in questioning the rationale for the US invasion of Iraq to begin with.

Another Marine Killed in Same Iraq Valley

By ROBERT H. REID, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The U.S. military said Thursday that another Marine was killed in action in the same Euphrates River valley where 14 Marines died in the worst roadside bombing targeting American forces in the
Iraq war.

A car bomb also hit members of a radical Shiite militia in northern Iraq as attacks nationwide killed at least 11 people Thursday.

The latest Marine casualty was in Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province 70 miles west of Baghdad. The Marine was killed by small-arms fire Wednesday — the same day 14 Marines and an Iraqi civilian translator died when a huge bomb destroyed their lightly armored vehicle near Haditha.

The latest death brought to at least 24 the number of Marines killed over the last week in along the Euphrates Valley in one of the bloodiest periods for U.S. forces in months. In all, at least 45 American service members have died in Iraq since July 24 — all but two in combat.
