Australia/Military prepares for future Iraq deployments
Hundreds of military personnel will converge on north Queensland next week to train for future deployments to Iraq.

The exercise will involve soldiers from the 1st Battalion at Townsville's Lavarack Barracks and the 2nd and 14th Light Horse Regiment based in Brisbane.

Lieutenant-Colonel Fred Cobain says the soldiers will eventually be posted to the Australian embassy in Baghdad.

"We want to make sure our people are prepared and they're up to speed on the latest lessons learnt," he said. "We put them through these drills to make sure they are prepared and we do that for all our people wherever they go."
