1. White House Officials Meet Anti-War Protesters (Cindy Sheehan)
Edited on Sat Aug-06-05 06:05 PM by NightOwwl
CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - About 70 anti-war protesters shouted "bring the troops home" from Iraq near President Bush's ranch on Saturday, prompting two White House officials to come out to meet with mothers who lost children in combat in Iraq.

National Security Adviser Steven Hadley and Deputy White House chief of staff Joe Hagin listened to the concerns of Cindy Sheehan and five or six other mothers in a meeting that lasted about 45 minutes, White House spokesman Trent Duffy said. Duffy said Sheehan told the two officials she appreciated the meeting.

"I want to ask the president, why did you kill my son? What did my son die for?" Sheehan, 48, Vacaville, California, told reporters before meeting with Hadley and Hagin. Sheehan blames Bush for the death of her son, Army Specialist Casey Sheehan, 24, killed on April 4, 2004, in Sadr City, Baghdad. The protest coincided with release of a Newsweek poll that said 61 percent of Americans disapproved of the way Bush was handling the situation in Iraq. The poll came after more than two dozen Americans were killed in the past week in Iraq.

Newsweek said it was Bush's lowest rating on Iraq and the first time it had dropped below 40 percent in its poll. Pentagon officials have said maintaining public support for the war is key to the troops' morale.

Above the space where it tells you to rate the story, though, is blank. This is something that has happened lately, I have no idea why, but I can no longer vote.

9. Actually, there were more like 100 of us there.
A bank thermometer in Waco registered 104. We walked about a half-mile through the heat from where they had us park our cars.

Despite what the news report said, the police actually thanked us for NOT walking on the road. Of course, the only traffic the police were letting on the road were police cars and secret service vehicles. The 'peace rally in Dallas'was the convention of the veterans against the war, which had gone one several days. "Some protestors left" because of the heat. Well, so much for Yahoo News -- at least it HAD a news report about the demo.

29. This is the kind of thing -
that makes their blood run cold. They don't dare face these people. They know what they're going to hear, and they will avoid it at all costs.

Steven Hadley by the way, is part of the Dark Side. He was part of the Joe Wilson Niger incident, but he never gets any press over it. (I have a long memory; like an elephant I never forget).

He's a real whimp, but he's part of the Evil Empire. He probably listened quietly and politely, and then after giving them the "allotted 5 minutes", he turned on his heel, marched back to the ranch

and had a stiff double martini. End of story.

Mother of Slain U.S. Soldier Stages Protest Near Bush's Ranch, Demands to Speak With President

By DEB RIECHMANN Associated Press Writer

CRAWFORD, Texas Aug 6, 2005 — The angry mother of a fallen U.S. soldier staged a protest near President Bush's ranch on Saturday, demanding an accounting from the president of how he has conducted the war in Iraq.

Supported by more than 50 shouting demonstrators, Cindy Sheehan, 48, told reporters, "I want to ask George Bush: Why did my son die?"

Sheehan arrived in Crawford aboard a bus painted red, white and blue and emblazoned with the words, "Impeachment Tour."

30. "Impeachment Tour" Lol...
What a marvelous idea. Impeachment Tour 2005 sounds like a bandwagon to hop on all across the country. Calling Mr. Kesey! :woohoo:

Ms. Sheehan rocks. She has my deepest sympathies for the loss of her beloved son due to that cowardly vermin occupying the WH -- or Crawford in this case.

Edited on Sat Aug-06-05 07:03 PM by BrotherBuzz
Cindy has come a long way in a short period of time. She lives in the next town over from me, and I was able to follow her story in the Vacaville Reporter. She was repeatedly and viciously attacked through a LTTE campaign for being, well, you already know the words they use. Cindy Sheehan, despite what your hometown may have thought and said of you, you are a true patriot in my book! You rock!

28. That's right, because there's a way to get around their nonsense
This is my mantra for the day: ( ;) and please forgive me if you've read this the other two places I've typed it, but it's important!)

Don't just rate up the story, email it to all your friends or anyone you feel will appreciate reading it. Yahoo tracks the number of emailed stories sent via the Email This Story link on every article's page and will subsequently place an actively-emailed story on either the Most Emailed or Most Popular lists - or both! Number ratings aren't the only means of indicating interest, worthiness, or popularity.

Email it for Cindy and all the wonderful marchers and supporters!

35. "And I said if he does care, why doesn't he come out and talk to me."
"They (the advisers) said we are in Iraq because they believed Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, that the world's a better place with Saddam gone and that we're making the world a safer place with what we're doing over there," Sheehan said in a telephone interview after the meeting.

"They were very respectful. They were nice men. I told them Iraq was not a threat to the United States and that now people are dead for nothing. I told them I wouldn't leave until I talked to George Bush."

She said Hagin told her, "I want to assure you that he (Bush) really does care."

"And I said if he does care, why doesn't he come out and talk to me."

36. From the Houston Chronicle
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/3299271

"I don't want him to use my son's name or my family name to justify any more killing," she said.

Sheehan said Bush administration officials "don't have a mission and they don't even ever plan on completing it." She said she fears that the United States plans to keep a U.S. military presence in Iraq indefinitely.

The White House responded to the protest, saying the president wants to bring the troops home.

"Many of the hundreds of families the president has met with know their loved one died for a noble cause and that the best way to honor their sacrifice is to complete the mission," White House spokesman Trent Duffy said today. "It is a message the president has heard time and again from those he has met with and comforted. Like all Americans, he wants the troops home as soon as soon as possible."
