Gibson Asked to Stage Christ's Crucifixion |
|
Actor-director Mel Gibson has been asked to recreate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ in the streets of Sydney if the city is selected to host a major Catholic gathering in 2008, a newspaper reported. Gibson's staging of the Stations of the Cross, a live interpretation of Christ's final hours, would be part of a bid by the city to secure the Catholic Church's World Youth Day in 2008, the Sydney Morning Herald reported Saturday. The last time I saw something like this was in downtown Minneapolis when they were staging the passion week, I had to crack-up when I noticed the cross "Jesus" was dragging had a pair of little wagon wheels on the end touching the ground can't go too realistic I guess

Damn them to hell. Christ died in context with his rising -- a much more glorious message that is often given less theatrical interest.

I have heard of gimmicks to get international events, but this is a bit over the top. A type of live, as relistic as you can get re-enactments is not what is best for youth travelling from all over to see. There are much better ways to get messages across.

11. Hope it goes as well as Orlando's First Baptist Crucifixion... |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-07-05 03:19 PM by tomreedtoon
This happened at the First Baptist Church in Orlando about ten years ago. They had a big, pretentious Easter celebration with wooden crosses and full orchestra and chorus. The only problem was the pegs on the cross where the actor playing Jesus was to hang on. They weren't glued in properly.
Although it was broadcast live, a quick engineer switched to a backup tape of the rehersal, so most people didn't see the whole thing. But this is what people saw live:
The drums rolled. The pretentouus announcer said on the backlit stage something like..."and the creator of the universe...was DESTROYED by His own CREATION!!!" The lights come up. The chorus sings.
And Jesus falls off the cross, almost in a swan dive.
The poor guy playing Jesus slowly lifts himself up from the wooden flooring of the stage, clearly bruised and hurting. None of the other people around the foot of the cross bother to help him. How could they? This wasn't in the Bible! Their tiny minds were incapable of responding to a real, hurt human being. It wasn't even a matter of "being good actors and being true to their part" - it was that their minds couldn't grasp that what the Bible said might not be literally true, and they couldn't breathe a hint of that.
If that were to happen to a Gibson-staged event, and there was no "protection video" like there were in Orlando, it would be so appropriate...
(The video of the un-edited Cross Dive used to be floating around the TV control rooms of Orlando, but I haven't been able to find it. One person even put a "trolley song" to the video, with the trolley bell "DING" at the same moment Jesus hits the floor.)

Surely somebody must have uploaded it to the net. Please!

Unless he really goes through with it. I'm tired of him being Jesus without following through. Enough of the glory already, where's the guts? :hurts: :sarcasm:

I do not see why people were so offended he put out a religious movie. I personally have never seen it and doubt I ever will. Just do not get why people started bashing him so hard.

22. His unbridled arrogance .. |
|
is a good reason.
Apparently, he is one of the very few who is going to Heaven.
Even his wife is going to H*ll; of course, in my faith (Church of Religious Science), Hell is a state-of-mind. And being Mel Gibson's wife has to be the epitomy of being in Hell.
She has 75 kids or something, right?

but I think you have to WATCH it; you can't read about it.
Just watch him in an interview.
I believe he thinks that he sits next to God in Heaven; it is just an attitude that makes this retired social worker vomit.
So, I do not allow myself to watch him anymore.
