15. To An Athlete, Dying Young
THE time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder-high.

To-day, the road all runners come,
Shoulder-high we bring you home,
And set you at your threshold down,
Townsman of a stiller town.

Smart lad, to slip betimes away
From fields where glory does not stay,
And early though the laurel grows
It withers quicker than the rose.

Eyes the shady night has shut
Cannot see the record cut,
And silence sounds no worse than cheers
After earth has stopped the ears:

Now you will not swell the rout
Of lads that wore their honours out,
Runners whom renown outran
And the name died before the man.

So set, before its echoes fade,
The fleet foot on the sill of shade,
And hold to the low lintel up
The still-defended challenge-cup.

And round that early-laurelled head
Will flock to gaze the strengthless dead,
And find unwithered on its curls
The garland briefer than a girl's.

16. RIP, golden girls and lightfoot lads, from both sides of the battle.
Seen that new Army Reserve ad, where the buzzcut young man in the Army tshirt is jogging through a poor but clean, all white neighborhood, populated with kids on bikes, and young mother with baby in a stroller, and grandma raking her yard. The young man says, "I'm doing it for them."
In that case, he should be jogging by the Board of Directors of Halliburton (with their huge conference table stacked high with blood soaked stock options), Paris Hilton in a bikini, the Bush twins drinking in some Georgetown pub, and a whole crowd of rich white college kids lounging their summer away around the club pool after an exhausting round of golf. Because that's who he's risking his life for

7. News Hour on PBS has a nightly litany of ages, faces and rank
My cousin is back in Germany, safe and sound.
But I still get choked up when I see that roll call.

I think I detected something in MSM. More people are beginning to ask questions and take notice of these deaths.

9. How many is that since the "murderer" went on vacation? How
many Iraqis? It is after all their country and we invaded based on lies from the cowards in D.C. And all those young Pugs who claim they are protecting us here at home from fates worse than death should be sold for dog food, instead of the innocent wild horses/burroes.

11. This is a multiple DUPE thread
All these deaths have been announced in other threads. This is material for General Discussion, not LBN. There is no LBN here.
