New York Times:
Pirro Begins Her Senate Campaign by Assailing Clinton
By PATRICK D. HEALY
Published: August 10, 2005

Decrying Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's "empty promises," Jeanine F. Pirro got her 2006 Senate campaign off to a fiery but rocky start today, broadly attacking Mrs. Clinton in a speech but struggling with questions about abortion, taxes, Iraq and her husband.

Ms. Pirro, the Westchester County district attorney and the top political prospect of 2006 for many Republicans, began a three-day statewide tour at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan this morning with a dozen friends and family members. Conspicuous in his absence was her husband, Albert, whose personal and legal problems have proved a liability in Ms. Pirro's career, and whose role in this campaign was left unclear by Ms. Pirro today.

In a 13-minute speech, Ms. Pirro laid out policy differences with Mrs. Clinton, whom she criticized and needled simply as "Hillary" at several points. But she also distanced herself on some issues from President Bush, her party's leader, saying she would work for "the voiceless, the alienated, the disenfranchised," and ignore "the political agendas of either the extreme left or the extreme right."

Unlike Mrs. Clinton, Ms. Pirro said, she would vote to make President Bush's tax cuts permanent, support the president's policies on the "war on terror" and the Patriot Act, take new but unspecified steps to create jobs upstate and serve a full six-year Senate term.

Swatting at Mrs. Clinton's rumored presidential ambitions for 2008, Ms. Pirro said the incumbent senator wanted to use New York as "a doormat to the White House."...

2. A centerist supporting war in Iraq and the Patriot Act?
That sounds familiar.

I expect Ms. Pirro will end up in the same discard heap that little Ricky Lazio was thrown onto.

I hardly think that is a talking point she should stick to.

5. Pirro at the Podium: Does Anyone Have Page 10?
<snip>
“Hillary Clinton,” she continued, and looked down at her notes. She then paused, mid-sentence, and said nothing. She shuffled through her notes, as seconds passed. Reporters shifted in their seats. Photographers flashed their cameras.

Then, in a muffled voice, Pirro asked her staffers, “Do you have page 10?”

Welcome, Ms. Pirro, to prime time.

8. A couple of questions about her (Pirro)
I heard her husband is a convicted felon, a tax cheat. I also heard that she says that should be a non-issue in the race. Now normally, I would agree with her, but there are two things which make me think that it should indeed be an issue. First of all is the obvious, Bill Clinton's presidency will certainly be brought up. Thats when Hillary should take off the gloves and fight hard. Secondly, and maybe more importantly, did Ms. Pirro sign any of the questionable tax returns? If so, is she in violation of the law herself? Perhaps the NY Dems and Hillary should ask that question.

about her husband's business dealings.

11. Her husband is alleged to have MOB TIES though
There are FBI tapes where some Gambino crime family bigshot was saying Al Pirro should have warned the capital-F Family that his wife was investigating them.

This is about more than tax returns.

13. Someone should tell Ms. Pirro that it is
unprofessional and disrespectful in a campaign for the United States Senate to refer to one's opponent by his or her first name. That alone is going to cost her support.

Sounds like she's awfully naive and inexperienced. Senator Clinton will wipe the floor with her.

16. You're wrong.
Hamilton County, which is a staunch puke county gave the AWOL chimp over 65% of their votes in 2004. But in the last Senate election, they went with Hillary.

Also, don't forget Albany county and Schenectady county. A lot of upstaters are ex-downstaters.

15. Kate Oberon (sp) on Hardball said she didn't think Pirro could win.
I was real surprised at that comment! Kate is a strong and loud Pub. If she's willing to say Pirro doesn't have much of a chance, she has less than that!!!!
