Seven Soldiers From Pennsylvania Killed in Iraq in Less Than Four Days
By Kathy Matheson
Associated Press Writer

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Seven National Guard soldiers from Pennsylvania have been killed in Iraq in less than four days, a toll that Gov. Ed Rendell said "brings home the crushing reality of this war."
Five were slain on Tuesday, the deadliest day of the war for the state's soldiers, the governor said Wednesday.

The five killed include Gennaro Pellegrini Jr., a 31-year-old Philadelphia police officer; John Kulick, a 35-year-old firefighter from Montgomery County; and Nathaniel DeTample, the 19-year-old son of a Bucks County detective.

The National Guard declined to say Wednesday how or when the three died, or to confirm the deaths of the two other soldiers Rendell was counting. Two additional Pennsylvania National Guard soldiers were killed Saturday in Iraq.

"It brings home the crushing reality of this war ... and the incredibly high price we pay for what we're trying to accomplish," Rendell said.

1. Notice Rendell doesn't say exactly what we are "trying to accomplish"
I guess we are supposed to know that already. I don't really know, I've just heard empty platitudes like "bringing democracy" from others. Are we really?

4. Cindy Sheehan would like to know...
What exactly are we trying to accomplish?

No wonder Bush won't answer her. Telling her we want their oil probably won't go over too well.

Hang in there Cindy...you've got our love and support. :grouphug:

6. The crushing reality of this war never set in his noggin until...
service personnel from PA were lost.

He must be a slow one.

8. Where does Ed stand?
I'm unaware of Rendell's position on Bush's Vietnam. Does this indicate support for the war or just a try not to offend political statement? I don't know. If he was opposed to the war, and had some courage, he should have said something like, "It brings home the crushing reality of this quagmire ... and the terrible price soldiers pay for the lies of the Bush administration."

I voted for Rendell, but am very disappointed in his performance. Especially the failure to make Act 72 mandatory, rather than optional.
