Probe Poses Issue of What Rove Told Bush
Among the many questions surrounding the investigation into who in the Bush administration leaked the name of an undercover CIA officer is whether President Bush's top political adviser told his boss the truth about his connection to the case.

Two years ago, the White House denied that Karl Rove played any role, but revelations in the past month have shown that Rove spoke with two journalists about the operative, Valerie Plame. Whether Bush knew the truth while the White House was issuing its denials is not publicly known.

Presidential scholars say a White House's refusal to comment can suggest an administration in political trouble.

"When under fire they suddenly hide behind the shield of secrecy as though they have no control over the matter," said Mark J. Rozell, a public policy professor at George Mason University who has written five books on the presidency.

2. I think Bush was in on this from the beginning.
He was on the AF1 flight to Africa where the State INR memo was being passed around. I don't believe that they would have discussed Wilson and Plame on that flight without Bush being involved. Maybe it was his idea in the first place to use Plame to discredit Wilson... we don't know who originated the idea but it could very well have been him.

22. If they lied to him, it is a crime
Either he knew (and I think he did) or he is gonna have to do without all of his trusted advisors, as they will be frogmarched!

I always thought one of Miller's sources was Bush. Sure, she may have met with Scooter, he of the nonspecific waiver/no personal waiver, but maybe all he did was dial a number and hand her the phone...?????

24. It wasn't about "discrediting Wilson,"
a phrase I have unfortunately heard even Wilson use. If anything, knowing the CIA sent him, and that his wife had connections, bolster's Wilson's credibility.

It was naked political revenge, an assassination attempt of the literal kind. They endangered her life, and that was the goal.

13. Revenge was part of his motive for invading Iraq --
'cause Saddam tried to kill his daddy. (before bushie could??)

He is a spoiled child -- and he has never grown out of this way of behaving in the world. He is a child emotionally in a man's body -- and perhaps the people who say he's a nice fellow see the child and they have never crossed him.

I don't think he has learned to handle dissent -- I believe that people around him have learned not to contradict him or disagree with him about anything.

Wasn't he part of the political dirty tricks crowd in previous elections?

23. Absolutely, and revenge against Daddy, too
He was going to show the world just how butch he was, and he wanted to humiliate his overbearing asshole Dad by doing what Daddy wouldn't dare to do. When trying to understand the motivations of this little nobody, always think petty and immature.

10. Dimson and Karl were doing political assassinations for decades
together. I have no doubts he was in on the retribution plan. But, like his dad, he'll say he was "out of the loop". Bushes do that.

11. Rove didn't have to tell Bush anything
It was Bush's idea to begin with. They cooked up the strategy on AF1 and the called Rove back in DC to get the smear campaign rolling.

They will distract from actual action through detail management. Like everything else. Just note whether anything actually happens or not.
