NYT/AP: Pirro Aide: Clinton Camp Slinging Mud
Pirro Aide: Clinton Camp Slinging Mud
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: August 13, 2005
Filed at 12:38 a.m. ET

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- A top aide to potential Republican challenger Jeanine Pirro accused Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's camp on Friday of being the source of reports the Westchester County district attorney had taken campaign donations from firms with alleged ties to mobsters. That charge was called ''baseless'' by both a top Clinton aide and by state Democratic Chairman Herman Farrell.

The exchange came in the wake of a report Thursday on the weekly New York Observer's political Web site, The Politicker, and a more detailed story in the New York Daily News' Friday editions about donations to Pirro's campaign committee.

''It's clear the Clintons and their attack dogs and their surrogates are already stooping to throwing mud, which is not much of a shock,'' said Pirro strategist and campaign spokesman Michael McKeon. ''They are very much afraid of Jeanine.''

McKeon conceded he had no direct knowledge that the Clinton camp was promoting the stories, but added ''one plus one equals two. Jeanine declares, this comes out, equals the Clinton attack team. It's simple arithmetic.''

Greg Smith, reporter for the New York Daily News, said he got his information from public records....

8. Indeed. Wherever Pirro walks, a trail of soil is left ...
... as though she's carrying torn sacks of potting soil on her hips. It's hard to imagine someone running for the Senate, which has oversight responsibilities, and she (purportedly) couldn't even be aware of her own husbnad's criminal activities.

6. Hillary will get a real warm-up bout out of Pirro. She's though and
bright, an excellent debater. Don't get me wrong, Hillary will chew her up but it's a good test of her skills. The last guy from Long Island was no match and she chewed him up. Pirro is a long time practitioner of NY State politics and she has a power base in Westchester County, the equivalent of the MD and VA counties surrounding DC.

I see this little piece of trash as a means of implying that Clinton is somehow anti-Italian...you know, she's calling me a "mobster," you know that means. New Yorkers are so smart and experienced, they won't fall for anything this weak. Pirro better get some new lines or this one will be over before the end of round 2.

10. Clinton doesn't need to destroy Pirro, Pirro is doing the work for her.
She's literally hit one PR disaster after another since she declared her candidacy.

"Is there a page 10?"

11. Another whining rightwinger
From the party that invented mud-slinging, it's sort of funny to hear them whine about it. They've pretty much cornered the market on mud-slinging. What a bunch of hypocrites.

I say throw as much mud as they find ~ politics is tough, her side taught that lesson to Sen. Clinton. If she can't stand the heat they invented, she better get out of the kitchen.

NYers don't like cry-babies. She better stop whining or she'll be finished before she starts.

14. Is the only thing this Pirro woman know how to do
is complain? So far all I've heard her say is how awful Hillary is, not why. How bad everyone else, yada, yada, yada.

I have no clue why she's running, except has revenge against Hillary, or what she stands for or what she plans to do FOR NY.

What a nasty, negative person. She's a real downer. Hillary is going to wipe the floor with her just by standing there and smiling.

15. Jeanine Pirro is using a strawman argument
not unlike the ones she has used in the past as a member of the 24/7 TV chatter class. Accuse your opponent of saying or doing something your opponent never said or did, and voila, you get people to talk about nothing instead of focusing on Pirro's own record (or lack thereof). BTW, where is Mr. Pirro?

17. What charge is baseless?
A top aide to potential Republican challenger Jeanine Pirro accused Sen.

When I first read the above paragraph, I thought that the Dems were saying that the charge against Pirro was baseless. The AP reporter is a poor writer and I haven't had enough coffee.

19. Agree about the sentence being misleading
I read it the way you did too: That the Dems said the charge that Piro took mob money was baseless.

I didn't realize that the Dems said that the charge that they leaked the info was baseless.

Now that you point out the correct reading I wonder if the sentence was written to purposely mislead people.

And it's so typically Repub to make a personal attack on the opposition rather than respond to the charge against themeselves.

22. Records: Pirro took mob cash - $12G linked to crime ties

Stick a fork in her -- she's done already!
Records: Pirro took mob cash
$12G linked to crime ties
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS EXCLUSIVE

By GREG B. SMITH
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Jeanine Pirro declared "I have taken on the mob" when she announced her run for U.S. Senate this week, but she could have said "I have taken from the mob."

The Westchester District Attorney pocketed nearly $12,000 in campaign checks from firms and associates with alleged links to organized crime, the Daily News has found.

A review of campaign and court records shows at least six donors with ties to mob families who've contributed to Pirro since 2003. That casts a shadow on Pirro, who's basing her run against Sen. Hillary Clinton in part on her reputation as a tough prosecutor.
Numbers and documents don't lie, Jeanine. As a prosecutor, you should know that.

So take this little bit of advice: next time you're tempted to whine that Hillary's slinging mud, do yourself a favor and keep that shrill pie hole of yours shut.

23. Watch her give it back with money collected from the RW Conspiracy
and declare herself born again, or something.

The Right Wing criminals have more money than any mob figures, so her new masters will buy her from her old masters.

25. Too late! She spent the mob money
Yep -- she's a made woman, but (unfortunately for her) not by the Bush Crime Cartel. Methinks that Karl Rove must be slipping up under the pressure -- there's no question that Pirro was "encouraged" into her run by the Turdblossom Bureau.
