Warner Calls BRAC Move Illegal (More Bush Nepotism)
http://home.hamptonroads.com/stories/story.cfm?story=90614&ran=87196&tref=po

Is this mis-administration really stupid enough to piss off Senator Warner? I report, you decide.

Surprisingly, we have the word "illegal" and Bush again used in the same story.

We here in VA are sure it's just a coincidence that the two states in a bidding war for the $1.2 Billion in revenue created by NAS Ocean just happen to be the states where the Fuhrer's brother is governor, and where he is the previous governor.

"U.S. Sen. John W. Warner on Friday blasted the federal military base closure commission, saying its decision to hold a new hearing on replacing Oceana Naval Air Station is illegal and “threatens the integrity” of the base closure process.

In a tough letter to Defense Base Realignment and Closure Commission Chairman Anthony J. Principi, Warner rebuked the commission’s move this week to consider reopening Cecil Field in Florida to replace Oceana in Virginia Beach.

State and federal officials said the hearing will be held Aug. 20 in Washington, D.C., and will focus solely on Florida’s proposal. Both states are expected to be allowed to argue their case. A BRAC Commission spokesman did not return several phone messages Friday.

John Ullyot, a Warner spokesman, said the senator is a strong defender of the process, having co-written the original law and its amendments since 1990. “He’s very serious that the commission is breaking the law in this case,” he said."

So let's see. Favoritism for family members or contributors? Check
Changing the rules in the middle of the game? Check
Politically motivated use of the Armed Forces? Check
Screwing a state with a Democratic Governor? Check

It all fits the chimps pattern doesn't it?

1. Virginia Beach? Isn't that part of the sacred territory of Pat Robertson?
Whaaaa? bush trying to p*ss off the Lord's Faithful Servant?

Texas and Florida. If it weren't for the minority of good people living there, those states would be a waste of space.

5. Texas lege managed to find $500 milllion
to attract the base to S. Texas, even though they haven't figured out how to manage school funding and state agencies are facing reduction in force.

6. My guess would be...
that Warner has his ducks in a row, as usual. Should be interesting for those of us in Virginia to see him take them to the mat on this. He's no wimp.

7. Oh sure. When OUR bases are closed and moved to FLA it's OK...
when HIS base is closed and moved to Jebbyland it's a problem.

Hopefully this goes through and Warner will lead the campaign to shut down the entire BRAC process. The savings - in relation to the overall Pentagon budget and what we're spending in Iraq - are peanuts and not worth the hundreds of thousands of lives that will be effected by this. Not to mention the gaping hole in air defense over the northeastern quarter of this country and its 25 million citizens.

8. What did Mr Warner expect
He and his senate collegues have let Bush break any other law he wanted, including lying us into war, with out repercussions. He mush now expect Bush to break this and other laws.
