Wal-Mart's every day low stock price

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Wal-Mart's big yellow smiley face hasn't had much to be happy about lately.

The world's largest retailer has seen same-store sales growth rates at its U.S. stores dwindle during the past few years. And the company has lately come under fire from unions, small business owners and minorities.

1. that's because they're parasites
on a communities life line.

It is getting hard though - w/ Target handing money over 2 steroid boy by the bag, I've had to seek out a K-Mart which is not easy w/ all the stores they closed.

5. I Always Try to Find it at Costco First
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 01:18 PM by AndyTiedye
Best quality and best prices and blue.

What's up with Target though? I thought they were one of the good ones.
But they seem to have turned rather red lately.

I don't think Walmart is too popular around here. They've only got
one store on the peninsula (which has many Targets and Costcos).
It's off on a side road and never looks too busy from the outside.
I haven't been inside it.

12. We still have a K Mart here, one of the big ones
It's right across from the huge Walmart. What a shock it hasn't been closed down yet! There's hardly ever that many people at Kmart, but Walmart is always going day and night.

25. I have ALL of them
COSTCO is always the most crowded, followed by KMart and Target. WalMart is an empty parking lot. I am suprised than are still paying their rent on their mega store.

6. Manufacturing jobs?

THE PROJECT FOR THE OLD AMERICAN CENTURY

The Project for the OLD American Century is a grass-roots organization that strives to protect and strengthen democracy primarily by disseminating unreported and underreported news stories from a perspective untainted by political or corporate sponsorship.

The Project was founded in 2002 in response to a rigged election, reduced civil liberties, a hijacking of our domestic and foreign policies by the energy/defense industries, and a compliant corporate media that refused to make these problems prominent in our national consciousness.  We felt it our duty as patriots to create a web-based independent media outlet where we can not only debunk the myth of the liberal media but expose the corruption and cronyism taking place at the highest levels of government and corporate power.

The Project for the Old American Century conducts its own research and compiles dossiers made available to the public both via the web or in print free of charge. Topics include conflicts of interest inside government agencies, specific profiles of top public officials, data acquired through the Freedom of Information Act, and much more.

7. The reality is: china-marts best days are now behind them....
When was the last time you saw a china-mart commercial touting low prices???

Since China has moved away from the US dollar exclusively, the price of imports are going to go up. That with the rise in gas prices will drive up costs for their cheapest crap.

Knowing china-marts practices, in the past they have strong armed their suppliers into lowering their wholesale price out of fear of losing china-marts business.

now that gas prices are going way up, will china-mart strong arm the oil companies? I would love LOVE to see that fight and wanna guess who will win? LOL

10. That explains their effort to "Targetize"
I have heard that they are going to upscale the look and product line a bit. I'll bet they don't, it's just an advertising ploy to get the prices back up to where they belong...now that they have taken over the retail industry and closed the mom and pops they don't need 'low price leadership' anymore.

11. Always go to Costco or the last Kmart we have left...
...for merchandise and Winn Dixie for groceries.
Last time I stepped foot in Wart-mart was last year during the hurricanes due to the fact it was the only thing open and felt the need to take a good, long shower afterwords.

Even if it wasn't for all their evil crimes, a shopping experience at a super center is always like rush hour on the Tokyo subway with 3 foot aisles and can be stressful for those of us who hate those kinds of environments.

The bummer is that Winn Dixie and Kmart are closing stores and once that happens there may be no alternative for things that Costco doesn't have.

19. Loved this bit
"...it's going to have to get a younger, hipper consumer to start shopping at its stores.

...Of course, there are some risks. Wal-Mart's campaign to attract new shoppers could backfire if the company alienates its core customer base."

Pfffft.

One, no "younger, hipper" customer is going to materialize.

Two, the "core consumer" is the debt-indentured working poor, who are likely to keep shopping at the only place they can afford. Even if they wanted to shop somewhere else, Wal-Mart's predatorial pricing has in many places wiped out the competition.

Did you get a job at Costco by any chance? There's a company that appreciates its employees.

And more profitable than WalPuke.

23. Someone in denial?
"Wal-Mart's earnings are expected to grow at about 14 percent a year for the next five years, a healthy pace for a company of its size."

Sounds like somebody's got a serious case of peak oil denial.

Good. The less they plan for it, the worse it'll hit them. Just wish I could be a fly on the conference room wall when the reality sinks it. What do you mean we can't get anymore cheap crap from China?! Tell them they better find some, dammit! :)

32. Not Really
When China gets too expensive WalMart will find another source of very cheap (AKA non-living wage) source for their goods.

I'm pretty sure the next source of cheap goods for Walmart and the next "economic miracle" will be the Gaza strip.

Very high unemployment, almost no economic development, and very youthful, uneducated and ignorant demographics.

Just made for exploitation.

34. That may be true, but that isn't the point.
Peak oil is a global problem. When sweet crude runs out (as many think it has), it will increase costs of raw materials, manufacturing and transportation.

No more cheap oil = no more cheap junk for WalMart.

Boo f'ing hoo.
