Putin Breaks Sound Barrier
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 06:31 PM by CHIMO
President Vladimir Putin, sitting in the pilot's seat, broke the sound barrier Tuesday as he flew in a long-range bomber to a Northern Fleet outpost to attend a war game similar to one that embarrassed the armed forces last year.

After opening the MAKS 2005 air show at the Zhukovsky airfield, Putin was whisked to the Chkalovsky Air Force Base northeast of Moscow to board a waiting Tu-160 supersonic jet.

During a brief medical check shown on state television, a medical officer told Putin that his blood pressure was as good as a cosmonaut's. The 52-year-old president joked that he would not fly to space this time.

Putin, a retired security services colonel who has sailed in a submerged submarine and has flown to Chechnya in a two-seater Su-27 fighter, then attended a mission briefing by Igor Khvorov, the head of the strategic air command.

Now is that "Bring it on" or "Make my day"?

1. "Top this one, George!"
Honestly. Are there any adults in positions of power anywhere in the world right now? It's like "Lord of the Flies."

4. uh oh -- this is going to put Bush in a bad mood
He hates to be out-machoed -- especially by the leader of a country such as Russia (since he was conditioned to hate "commies" from an early age!). And now, with people starting to compare him unfavorably to Cindy Sheehan, a "mere woman" ... the pressure is really on!

Bush will have the urge to do something dramatic, to steal Putin's spotlight. I don't think his handlers will let him do another mock "carrier landing". Maybe he will attempt to elbow Lance Armstrong aside, and pretend that HE won the Tour de France!

40. I wonder if he's been re-using that sock lately ...
I noticed the recent news coverage of him swaggering down a road at the "ranch", and his pants were so tight that they didn't leave much to the imagination. Even assuming he's put on a few pounds, that wouldn't account for it (unless the man grows his "love handles" in an unusual location).

17. Putin rode in a Blackjack Bomber and SU-27 Fighter...that beats Bush & Co.
All the pResident could muster was a lil ol' S-3 Viking anti-submarine aircraft. Only thing wimpier (in terms of firepower) on a U.S. aircraft carrier would be the C-2 COD plane (no offense, Navy folks).

20. Just a little reminder for our boy W
Just what a loser punk Commander Codpiece is. LOL. I understand Putin holds a black belt rank in Kodokan Judo too. Say what you want about the guy, he is truly an accomplished man.

One cannot say the same, however, for certain other Presidents we know...

24. Oh, well your confusion is understandable but
but your conundrum is easily solved, my friend. You see, the honorific "punk Commander Codpiece" is one of the earliest incarnations of the presidential egregor we would someday come to know as (full) Commander CuckooBananas.

Now I feel obliged to explain here: I refer back to "Commander Codpiece" now and then when it seems appropriate and only to honor the man. It's a nostalgia, I suppose, for those callow days early in his first term as Dictator of the Free World and America's New War Cowboy.

Remember those simpler days?

Back when the mission was accomplished...

Hope this helps.

...Putin always impressed me, he has a steely resolve and a quiet intellectual value about him that demands respect, indeed he is accomplished unlike a certain halfwit who was intelligently designed in a lab in texas by an undergraduate in plant biology.

42. Correct. Putin is an acknowledged Judo expert
http://www.fightingarts.com/reading/article.php?id=167

Here's a picture of Putin flipping a guy:

And for fairness, here's a picture of Putin getting flipped:

He also wrote a book about Judo:
Judo: History, Theory, Practice
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1556434456/002-0248004-7843217?v=glance

I've always thought that Putin's practice of Judo said a lot about how he went about doing things. I've always figured this was lost on the Bush administration, though.

In fact, he thrived, came out on top without any help from his Daddy.

Putin has seen "scared, weak and stupid" many times.
Seeing bush* was nothing unusual for the head of the KGB.

39. Thanks for reminding people ...
... that this is one major world leader who has actually held down
a real job (other than the usual arse-licking, bribery & corruption
of a "career" politician). In fact, probably the only one ...?

Given the nature of his previous job, it should be blindingly obvious
to anyone with more than a few braincells that Putin is really a guy
to watch carefully ... he isn't going to be bullshitted, derailed or
arrogantly dismissed by the likes of dimwit or any of his cohort.
