Iraq: US patrol hit as pressure growing on leaders regarding constitution
This is the second attack on a convoy. The first today killed four soldiers in Samarra.

Fresh violence rocked Baghdad with a US military convoy hit by a roadside bomb and an Iraqi judge and his driver shot dead as international pressure was growing on Iraqi leaders to reach an agreement on a draft constitution.

According to AFP, Iraqi sources reported some US casualties in the bomb explosion.

Meanwhile, Iraqi politicians working on the constitution said officials from the United Nations and Britain were now ready to help Iraq complete the process, in addition to the Americans.

"It has now become a question of who is stronger -- the politicians or the insurgents," said Kurdish constitution committee member Mahmud Othman, according to AFP.

4. Got a link?
Sy Hersh is my hero--the only real journalist in America. Did you notice that his New Yorker story about Bushco's failed attempt to fix the Iraq elections fell instantly down the media memory hole? I guess they just didn't get why such a thing would be important.

6. Seymour Hersh's article:
SEYMOUR HERSH’S article:

I think this story sunk without a trace because a story on unsuccessfully rigging an election just doesn’t have the same attraction as a successfully rigged one. Maybe Iyad Allawi’s Iraqi List received a few more seats and the UIA lost some. Allawi still received less that 14% of the vote and is no longer Prime Minister.

Votes as a percentage / seats in the National Assembly

United Iraqi Alliance 48.2 / 140
Democratic Patriotic Alliance of Kurdistan 25.7 / 75
Iraqi List 13.8 / 40

3. Fortunately, once there's a constitution in Iraq
the magical powers of that document will cause the insurgency to pack up its plastic explosives and RPGs and go home. That's what my Preznit tells me. Of course, he told me the war was over three or four times already, but I find it convenient to forget all that, because my Preznit would not lie to me.
