KWTX Waco: CA Man Arrested Near Bush Ranch After Protesters Threatened

California Man Arrested Near Bush Ranch After Protesters Threatened

Charges were pending Thursday morning against a California man who was arrested Thursday morning after protesters were threatened at “Camp Casey,” the site where anti-war demonstrators have gathered near the President’s Central Texas ranch.

The man told deputies he was a Secret Service agent, officials said, but he wasn’t.

Complaints including making a terroristic threat and impersonating a peace officer are pending.

It was the third incident involving protesters since Sunday, when a nearby landowner fired a shotgun blast that startled demonstrators and Secret Service agents alike.

The man told reporters he was simply preparing for the start of dove hunting season....

UPDATE edit: Thanks to libertypilot, from an "Iconoclast" report --

....Last night (about 1 a.m.), an unidentified man showed up at the camp pretending to be newly arrived, which isn't unusual. He was met by Cindy Sheehan's private security people, Patrick Miller from southeast Kansas and Dave Jensen from Tyler, Texas. The man said he worked for Jeb Bush and told Diane Wilson, a camp coordinator, that he could have her arrested anytime he wanted. He indicated, said Wilson, that he knew Secret Service men that happened to drive by.

Tammara Rosenleas, whose husband is now at Ft. Hood and is expected to deploy within a year, said she knew immediately something was amiss. An attorney from Louisiana chased the man down the road. The man left his car when chased. The car was towed and, according to camp sources, the man is now apparently in custody. Sheehan's security personnel praised the law enforcement officers for their prompt attention to this matter and their patience during the entire stay at Camp Casey....

(Are they sure he DOESN'T work for Jeb???)

9. Actually, there is a "dove-hunting season" in Texas...
From the Houston Chronicle:

The addition of a wedge of country southwest of San Antonio to the Special White-winged Dove Area (SWDA) and a modification in the dove bag limit for the four-day September "whitewing" hunt will be the biggest changes dove hunters face.

Previously limited to a band of country along the Rio Grande from Del Rio to the mouth of the river, the SWDA is expanding by about 20 percent.

The area contained inside a line along U.S. Highway 90 from San Antonio to its intersection with U.S. Highway 83 in Uvalde, then along U.S. Highway 83 from Uvalde to its intersection with Interstate 35 in Encinal, then along U.S. 35 to Loop 1604 in San Antonio now will be included in the SWDA.

Bag limit increased

A four-day dove hunting season — Sept. 3-4 and 10-11 — will be held in the SWDA.

Daily bag limit during the four-day season will be 12 doves per day, up from the 10-dove limit in previous whitewing-area hunts.

But that bag can include no more than four mourning doves, down from the five mourning doves allowed in previous SWDA hunts.

Whether or not this was the man's intent remains unseen. It could have very well been scarcasm considering the nickname given to anti-war activists.

22. This post was a reminder...
That I'm still a bit of a hayseed.....

I had never made the connection between "dove" in this context and "anti-war activist". (Maybe he was indeed making a sarcastic joke, but I doubt it; it was reported by one of the press at the scene that the man was stinking drunk at 10:00 AM. Sounds a little too erudite for this guy).

All I thought of was the real "dove season". Quite plentiful here in KS, (as I'm sure you already know.)

Take a dove breast, wrap a bit of bacon around it, secure with a toothpick and grill with butter on the BBQ.

That smell, as the late Jerry Clower put it, could "Make a puppy pull a freight train."

No Charges Against Imposter in Denver Three Case
The Secret Service has responded to an inquiry by Sen. Ken Salazar and Reps. Diana DeGette and Mark Udall as to whether criminal charges will brought against the unidentified Republican operative who posed as a Secret Service agent and ejected three Denver activists from President Bush's social security event at Wings Over the Rockies in March.

According to the letter, which you can read here, (pdf) the matter was presented to the U.S. Attorneys' office for investigation of a possible violation of this federal law making it a crime to impersonate a federal official. The U.S. attorneys' office declined the prosecution.

This is starting to remind me of the Monsters from the Black Lagoon who populate the anti-abortionist movement: the ones who lay in wait in the woods behind doctors' houses and shoot them through their windows.

Or throw bombs into clinics.

31. I love these guys.
Publicize them. Show their faces. Broadcast their inane comments. Hang the so-called "moderate Republicans" with these people. When you sign on with the Republicans, you're giving these folks their "mandate". They'll bomb abortion clinics, blowup federal buildings, kill doctors, beat women, drag minorities behind their trucks...and do so with the idea that "real" Americans are behind them. Dubya has empowered the bullies who prey on others.
This is the legacy of the Bushies and hate-radio.
Make sure the "moderates" you know realize these guys are on their team.

43. Impersonating a peace officer??
Doesn't impersonating the Secret Service carry its own charge, a more serious offense than impersonating, say, the dog catcher or a patrol officer? I would think that when the impersonation is of someone at the federal level, it would be -- pardon the expression -- a federal offense.
