UK Police Lied About Bomb Suspect Shooting
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2005/08/17/nmenez17.xml&sSheet=/news/2005/08/17/ixnewstop.html

The Brazilian electrician shot dead by police on the London Underground last month was being restrained when he was killed by officers from Scotland Yard’s firearms unit, according to documents leaked last night.

Jean Charles de Menezes, 27, was shot seven times in the head by two plainclothes policemen who had followed him on to the train at Stockwell station in the mistaken belief that he was a potential suicide bomber.

Documents and photographs leaked to ITV News also confirmed that Mr de Menezes did not run from the police, as had been reported, had used his Tube pass to enter the station, rather than vault the barrier, and had taken a seat on the train before being grabbed by an officer.

He was wearing a light denim jacket and not as previously reported a padded coat which could have concealed explosives.

The documents, which contain witness statements made to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, also suggest that the intelligence operation may have been botched because an officer watching a flat believed to be the hideout of one of the suspects in the abortive July 21 attack was “relieving himself”.

3. When this first happen I asked why people were so quick to support the
police without an investigation. Now that an investigation and different facts are coming out it seems the police might have fucked up. Well no kidding.

9. I know...
I immediately went searching for one of those original threads where so many (too many) people were ignoring experience and giving the bobbies the thumbs up, even though the guy had no bomb.

Unfortunately, the archives are disabled right now. :(

6. Not only did they lie but...
they brushed the official call for an investigation right after the shooting happened. This means that all pertinent files could have been doctored or removed between then and now. Someone on BBC said that this was especially troubling and points to an official cover-up.

7. What?
WTF is going on in the world??? It's all the media's fault! One day they say, "A guy in a big padded coat jumped a turnstile & ran against orders", then a few weeks later it says he had on a jean jacket, and was sitting when they shot him! My God! The day of Big Brother really is here! We can't believe ANYTHING we see or hear in the news on TV, radio, or newspapers!!! Judith Miller of the NYTimes ran dozen's of bogus Iraq WMD stories in the leadup to the Iraq War, and that's supposed to be a LIBERAL Paper?????

Bottom line: we can't trust anyone anymore! That's what they want? That's what they got now in this country! No one trusts anyone else! What a country!

8. Excellent point.
I hadn't thought about the "no investigation" meaning the files were not sacrosanct.

11. so the relevant facts are as follow...

did not run from police
did not jump the turnstyle (paid with his Tube pass)
was not wearing a heavy jacket
was physically restrained at the time of the shooting

that and only 8 of the bullets hit him, the other 3 missed (7 in the head, one in the shoulder, 3 misses = 11 total)

wow ... just, wow.

12. This is why England is on the ball.
When the first details came out of him "running" and "wearing a bulky coat" I agreed. Yeah, he sounded suspicious. Their investigation is public. Yes, there were things done wrong but the government concealing them would have made the damage worse. This will make everyone wary about shooting first.

I pray that this young man's family can find peace after their grief.

14. May I hazard to guess that
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 12:41 AM by Must_B_Free
perhaps this electrician did the wiring for the bombs under the trains.

apparently each train that exploded was stopped for some time between 6 am and when they blew.

Perhaps this chap was assigned to the wiring and they believed he might spill the beans.

That would explain it...

At any rate the government has allowed passage of a sympathetic false story and has been caught. If they lied about this, what else might they have lied about?

it changed from one hour to the next. My first impression was that he was innocent - we never catch any bad guys. We are the bad guys, IMO.
