Salt Lake City Mayor Calls for Protest of Bush.
SALT LAKE MAYOR CALLS FOR PROTEST OF BUSH

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Salt Lake City's Mayor Rocky Anderson used e-mail this week to call for "the biggest demonstration this state has ever seen," when President Bush appears before a national veterans convention Monday.

SNIP:

The mayor's e-mail called for a collaboration of health care advocates, seniors, gay and lesbian advocates, anti-Patriot advocates, civil libertarians and anti-war folks to protest outside the convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

SNIP:

The Vietnam vet, who says he voted for Anderson, but won't again, says the protest will offend veterans and embolden enemies of the U.S.

10. Somebody in the Boston area told me Cheney was a "brilliant strategist"
Edited on Sun Aug-21-05 04:52 AM by lebkuchen
My vet friend asked, "Brilliant at strategically avoiding military service during the Vietnam War? He's managed five deferments."

I asked the guy if he thought Iraq had WMD. He said NO.

I asked if he thought Saddam was responsible for 9-11. He said, "Not directly, but he helped to fund it."

Where do Americans get their silly ideas, which fly in the face of what their own government commissions tell them?

13. Soldiers listen to Rush Limbaugh every day on Armed Froces Radio
It is not surprizing to hear a soldier utter garbage as their belief because they are inundated with propaganda daily.

20. The guy making the comment wasn't military, and never had been
though I don't doubt he got his bizarre views from Rush.

6. I knew the mayor of Salt Lake City
was a Dem but I didn't know he was a stand up Dem.

We're suppose to all cower under the bed like bush does when he doesn't want to meet Cindy?

bush got us into an illegal war and they didn't have a clear exit strategy(could it be because they want to stay forever?).

The "enemy" is us!

...anti-Patriot advocates...

Shouldn't that be "anti-USA PATRIOT Act advocates?" Or, less awkwardly and more accurately, "USA PATRIOT Act opponents?" Makes it sound like these people are against being patriotic. Hrm.

8. Nice. In case Bush thought he was escaping the ranch,
he's got a surprise coming. I hope Utah whips up the BIGGEST demonstration, ever. Wouldn't that be a bucket of cold water on the old boy.

Isn't that our George? Creating havoc wherever he goes.

~snip~
At least one formal protest is planned during Bush's visit. Families and veterans opposed to Bush's war policies will gather at Pioneer Park at noon, and Salt Lake Mayor Rocky Anderson called on Utahns to join the protest.
Celeste Zappala of Philadelphia, whose son was killed in action in Baghdad in 2004, will speak, along with local members of Military Families Speak Out and Veterans for Peace. Zappala is a co-founder, with Cindy Sheehan, of Gold Star Mothers for Peace, and has joined Sheehan at her vigil outside the Bush ranch in Crawford, Texas.

Gold Star Families for Peace began running a 60-second ad featuring Sheehan in the Salt Lake market Saturday, calling on Bush to meet with her. A similar ad has aired in the Waco-Crawford Central Texas market since Sheehan, Zappala and other mothers began their vigil on Aug. 7.
The advertisement was rejected by KTVX Channel 4 because of the content, according to a statement from general manager David D'Antuono. The ad has been running throughout the weekend on KSL, KUTV and KSTU.
