No 10 ends blackout on PM's holiday
No 10 ends blackout on PM's holiday
22 August 2005

Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie are on holiday in Barbados, Downing Street has disclosed.

No 10 lifted a news blackout on the Blairs' holiday location after the premier attended a memorial service on the island on Sunday night for Barbadian war veterans.

The Prime Minister's director of communications, David Hill, wrote to news organisations in July asking them not to report the holiday location for security reasons.

The request was widely respected, although photographs of the family on holiday and some details of their stay have been reported.

6. My father has an interesting theory about Cherie.
He thinks that Blair is quite sane, but that Cherie is flaking out an applying a great deal of influence on him which he has to pander to to stop her "going public". I'm not really sure I agree, but they seem a very odd couple right now.

7. Cherie is a cold war hybrid plant. Her real parents are Margaret
Thatcher and Robert Maxwell. Her real name is Dorothy Freeman and she is maried to a Russian/Cuban mobster called John Gelli.

For over 30 years the Tories bent over backwards to prevent Robert Maxwell being prosecuted for serial frauds.

Gordon Thomas And Martin Dillon have written an ace book about him, reviewed here:
ROBERT MAXWELL WAS A MOSSAD SPY

12. But at the time
Margaret and Denis were newlyweds, Thatcher having just delivered Mark and Carol, and Maxwell was a minor publisher.

8. I am so glad he found the time to "attend a memorial service
on the island on Sunday night for Barbadian war veterans." It's too bad he couldn't find the time to attend the funeral service of Robin Cook, a former member of his own cabinet.

This man is despicable.

10. Talk about effed up priorities...
..but then again it might have appeared a little tacky going to Robin Cook's funeral in shorts and a floral-print shirt....

14. Here's an article with a pic from the local newspaper
From the Barbados Nation News:

Governor-General Sir Clifford Husbands (right) with (from left) Captain Peter Short of the Barbados Legion, Cherie Blair and husband, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Prime Minister Owen Arthur preparing to sing the battle hymn, To God Be The Glory.

BRITISH PRIME MINISTER TONY BLAIR was a guest at Barbados' Drumhead ceremony yesterday to mark the end of World War II.

Held outside the historic Main Guard at the Garrison, St Michael, home of the Barbados Legion, the British leader joined Governor-General Sir Clifford Husbands and Prime Minister Owen Arthur, to lay wreaths at a service to commemorate Victory Over Japan Day.

United States Ambassador Mary Kramer and Canadian High Commissioner Michael Welsh also laid wreaths.
