Man held in alleged plot to bomb Seattle VA office
Charles "Charlie" Merle Whitaker III told two former roommates he was a military veteran who knew how to make bombs, booby traps and chemical poisons, and planned to use his knowledge to blow up the Veterans Affairs office in downtown Seattle, according to a federal search warrant.
....
"The facts, as they came together in this case, gave us reason to believe he had the means to carry out," said Ian Canaan, commander of the Federal Protective Services (FPS) for Western Washington.

Whitaker allegedly made the threats to bomb the VA office in the Henry M. Jackson Federal Building on Second Avenue because he had been denied veterans' benefits, Canaan said. "I have no idea what services he wanted ... I don't really know what he was upset about," he said.
