Bush Says Iraqi Constitution Delays Are Understandable

The White House now predicts Iraq's new constitution will be approved by Parliament before the week is out.

....

Bush told veterans in Salt Lake City Monday that Americans know from their own history that hammering out a constitution is "a difficult process that requires debate and compromise."

A White House statement says the draft shows "impressive progress" by Iraqi politicians. It glosses over the major disputes that led Sunni politicians to block a final vote, calling such disputes "the essence of democracy."

BAGHDAD (Reuters) -
Iraq's once-dominant Sunni Arab community was left with a stark choice on Tuesday -- rally behind a Shi'ite-Kurdish draft constitution within 72 hours, or try to defeat it at a referendum in October.

With all sides digging in their heels, a deal by Thursday looked highly unlikely and a battle loomed over the referendum, in which Sunni "No" votes could block the adoption of the charter.

3. debate and compromise
Ah yes the two hallmarks of this administration always open, even welcoming voicing of opposing viewpoints.

doesn't anybody have the nerve to say "Mr. President you are full of shit do you know that?"

4. Debate and compromise? Chimpy said that?
Huh. Odd that he's so understanding of the processes of democracy in other countries and totally oblivious to them in his own.

6. He is such an ass*
Once upon a time, oh back in the 1780's, a little city and state named New York, wouldn't ratify the new US Constitution until a Bill of Rights was added. I know, they were such kooks! Personal freedoms, pah!

Now we have a whole section of Iraqi society, delaying their constitution because they aren't being fairly represented. Wow, total kooks!

So sad. Once upon a time it was about personal freedoms, now it's about survivability for whole sections of a populations.

yeah, building freedom already, one hypocrisy at a time.

This "constitution" in Iraq is such a sham. Total marginalization of a secular society, in favor of radical religious control. Yeah, we brought them freedom, freedom to hate, kill and torture.

Monkey see monkey do. We are a shining example.

colossal failure*

If he told me i lived in the South, i would not believe him.

They don't call it "North" Carolina for nothing, would be my argument.
