Protesters, traffic snarls raise courthouse ruckus

Despite the threat of a civil rights lawsuit, a divided McLennan County Commissioners Court took the first step Tuesday in regulating traffic on more than seven miles of roadways around President Bush's Crawford ranch.

....

“We are not trying to penalize anybody,” said Meadows, whose precinct includes the Bush ranch. “The homeowners are hurting out there and have had to deal with a lot of problems for the past two weeks. What has happened in the past two weeks is our sheriff and chief deputy have turned into parking attendants.”

....

“We drive through this every day,” Westerfield said. “My daughter is 9 and people walked up to our car window and said things and made her feel very uncomfortable. She is too nice a girl to repeat some of the things they said.

“We've seen people going to the bathroom on the side of the road out in front of everybody,” she said. “There is a man sleeping in a bus who is halfway naked. I drove through this and my children are scared. We are scared.”

3. Halfway Naked?
We could smell the garlic and incense coming from within. I'm telling you I saw Satan himself in the tent.
Gasp!

Hey now Hey now Lay it all down

Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes...known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few…No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.
– James Madison, Political Observations, 1795

4. I call total BULLSHIT!!!
Do any of you believe that people with Cindy would say ANYTHING untoward to a 9 year old girl? Unless that child is mouthing off along with her sourpuss Mother, then I highly doubt people supporting Cindy are talking trash at the child. Wonder if Mommy has been trying to run people off the road? Or perhaps engaging in some colorful language of her own?

thing to a nine year old. All Protesters are being lumped together when I would bet money it is the freepers that are trashing the area and are rude and crude and scaring the townsfolk.

7. Maybe she should take her 9 year-old
for a visit to Iraq where she could see how Iraqi children are living as a result of George Bush's war. Those that are still alive, that is.

The person responsible for the inconvenience of having to pass a few extra cars (but I thought rightwing radio hosts were saying there weren't many people there?) is George Bush. She should write to him and ask him to speak to the mother of a dead soldier and everyone will go home. Did anyone tell her that?

Heaven forbid our children should see citizens exercising their constitutional rights but Iraqi children should have to watch their parents being blown to bits because of the Bush administration's lies.

I love when they use the children ~ 'what about the chilren' ~ I'd like to ask her 'what about the children of Iraq?' And show her a few pictures. Her daughter is very, very lucky ~ Maybe some pictures of dead and wounded Iraqi children along the way might make her realize how lucky her daughter is.

9. Reminds me of that Phil Spurlock guy
The one who faked a picture with the little blonde girl (his own daughter) on his shoulders with a big bad Kerry supporter sneering at him. Turned out the Kerry supporter was his own son, and he was using his kids to make Kerry look bad. That's what these county commisioners are doing here. Using their kids to make the opposition look bad. It's too pathetic.

10. Geez
What a bunch of babies! Is this the only road to where these people need to go?

If the mom of the 9-year-old has such a problem, she needs to find another route.

Or, better yet, explain to her daughter the unjust war that * has forced upon us and she might not take such offense to what we are saying. I think a 9-year-old could grasp the concept that the Iraqi war is unjust and criminal.

Hell, my toddler niece probably gets it. Sheesh.

for small minded people.

If people are going to the bathroom on the side of the road and they're out in front of everybody and Ms.Westerfield is driving through it, then maybe she should stop driving on the side of the road. Or keep her eyes on the road and stop lying about her experiences.

17. I wonder how much money has made its way to Crawford
Probably a lot more than the money Chumpy brings with him.. The captive stenographers that follow him around probably don't spend a lot.

The protestors have probably beefed up the local economy tenfold. Of course the reason they are there, is the burr under the saddle.

I guess they will just have to 'deal with it'..'Get over it'..'Move On'..

In a week Chumpy will be gone, and they can have their gritty little dustbin back to themseves.

21. Since the administration has dubbed this area the "Western White House"
Doesn't that proclamation trump any local distinction? In other words, isn't the "Western White House" public property -- just like the original White House?

It seems to me that - if that is the case - then the gates on the "Western White House" should be thrown open and the protestors and supporters should be allowed to camp right there on the public property and use the public facilities.

25. That's right, CornField
Its only democratic, eh?

Seems to me the problem stems from b**h. If he weren't there neither would the crowds. I'd say they should declare the western White House a public nuisance and evict the troublemaker. Everybody would go home and Crawford could go back to sleep.

Crawford: We are watching you. The whole world is. You'd best be careful.

....
The restrictions against parking, stopping or standing would apply to Prairie Chapel, Hester, Old Beulah,

27. Go talk to Bush
He's the one refusing one simple meeting with Cindy. That's all he has to do in order to make this all go away.

Then there's this:

"What has happened in the past two weeks is our sheriff and chief deputy have turned into parking attendants."

Because I'm sure they were so active before in the bustling town of Crawford, TX. :eyes:

I figured a big portion of them would think "occupiers" are good! They are only getting a teensy sample of what the people of Iraq are suffering through.

32. it's always"but the cheeeeldren !!!"deal with it-or move to another town
If the Cheeeldren are "scared" it's because their parents tell them to be--
Fear of protestors? gimmie a break!
it's probably good for them to see beyond their sheltered facade of a world
there in Crawdaddyford--

By the way, there wasn't even a place called "Crawford" Texas prior to Chimp's occupation of the White house.--it was incorporated after the inauguration--
Not that that makes a difference but these residents that are so "upset" don't "have" to live there--
They must hate "freedom" !!!
They are free to leave and don't even know it!

My advise--> ignore them like your beloved Chimp does.

38. Bush flying back to Waco Wednesday afternoon
Sheehan, the 48-year-old Vacaville, Calif., mom whose protest
was interrupted last week by her mother's illness in Los Angeles,
was flying back to Waco Wednesday afternoon to resume her protest
of the war in Iraq.

The press conference they were mounting focused on
how pollution would adversely impact President Bush's
outdoor activities, including bike-riding and brush-clearing. :puke:

President Bush is returning to all of this Wednesday, flying
back to Waco from a short stay in Idaho, then going to his
ranch to continue his August vacation.
