Poll shows Schwarzenegger's popularity at all-time low

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - (KRT) - Despite a monthlong push to burnish his image, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger must undertake a monumental sales job if he hopes to regain public confidence and convince voters to support three November ballot initiatives to revamp state government.

With fewer than three months before the election, Schwarzenegger's popularity remains lodged at an all-time low, according to a poll released Thursday by the non-partisan Public Policy Institute. Just 41 percent of likely voters approve of Schwarzenegger's job performance - a number that drops to 34 percent among all Californians.

Voters aren't warming up much to the governor's ballot initiatives, either. None of the measures he's championing earned majority support in the poll. His centerpiece reform - a spending-control measure - is trailing by more than a 2-to-1 margin.

Of the eight ballot initiatives that voters will face in November, only one is pulling strong voter support - a Republican-backed measure that would restrict unions' ability to make political contributions, which mostly flow to Democrats. Because of that, many political observers consider Proposition 75 the most significant issue on the ballot. So far, Schwarzenegger has spoken fondly of the measure, but stopped just short of endorsing it.

go to dreamy land by.

I hope Californians are able to vote way down all of the shovelnator's gestapo initiatives.

Why is this so popular?

Why the hell shouldn't unions be able to support whoEVER they want?

7. bottom line: because unions support Democrats
why is it popular? probably because it's not hard to get public support for any campaign finance reform issue.

8. Should the initiative to require public-sector unions to get. . .
annual approval from their members to use dues for political purposes passes, shouldn't there be a comparable initiative requiring publicly-traded corporations to get annual approval from their shareholders to use corporate profits for political purposes?

28. Arnie's Popularity Plummets as Californians Tire of his Reform Pledges
Arnie's popularity plummets as Californians tire of his reform pledges

Dan Glaister in Los Angeles
Friday August 26, 2005
The Guardian

The honeymoon is over for California's governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. The bodybuilder-turned-actor-turned-politician is facing plummeting popularity.

An opinion poll this week showed Mr Schwarzenegger with an approval rating of only 34% - a 31-point drop in the past year.

This puts him even lower than President George W Bush, who won an approval rating of 38% from Californians interviewed for the survey.

<>

Mr Schwarzenegger's ratings have steadily declined since he proposed cutting benefits for public-sector workers, including nurses, teachers, firefighters and the police. Since the early summer, he has faced a stream of negative advertising from unions representing nurses and teachers

That's a little too high if you ask me. Then again, it's pretty irrelevant. No republican is going to win CA on a national level, unless they were winning in a landslide. The main focus now should be getting him booted next year (if he even decides to run again). I hope CA dems keep him on the defense and keep whacking away - and have a decent candidate next time.

37. the repubs are registered at 37% here
California has a repub level at 37% of registered voters. It has gone up and down between 37.2 and 37.8%, but it stays at that number. So if Bush is getting 37% among registered voters he is getting the repug base. If he is getting 37% among everybody , he is getting the people people that would register republican anyway. When they fall out of that 37% they are losing their base. I have been told that the repugs tend to vote party line here in CA 85% of the time. I would be suprised if a repug fell below 32-33% simply because that would be the point where they turned thoughless party line voters against them.

35. Ich bin ein lügner
I am a liar.
Seeing this bumper sticker more often here in sunny SoCal with der Gropenfuhrer's smiling visage adorning it. All those arrogant, angry "W" stickers?.. not so much now. I take that as good indicator that even the goosestepping sons of nazis that comprise the GOP here are starting to move away from both of these rodeo clowns. Of course, God only knows what dipped-in-shit reprobate they'll find to step into the breach. Pat Robertson has my vote for Asshole-Most-Likely. But thats just because I desperately want to see O'Reilly trying to defend him every time he nearly drowns in his own bile along the campaign trail. You just can't buy that kind of entertainment.
