Danger rises for Reserves
Potential members are warned of conflict as the Army Reserve tries
to hit recruiting goals

With the Army Reserve expected to miss its recruiting goal by up to 5,000 soldiers by the end of September, potential recruits are now being told not to expect only "two weeks in the summer, one weekend a month and extra money for college."

During a news conference yesterday, Lt. Gen. James Helmly, chief of the Army Reserve, acknowledged that recruiting goals are falling short and that recruits are being told to be ready for potentially long and dangerous deployments.

During the conference at Army Reserve Fort Shafter headquarters, Brig. Gen. John Ma, head of the Army Reserve in the Pacific, said retention -- not recruiting -- is his major challenge, since the active Army is responsible for bringing in new soldiers.

1. So they're telling the truth now?

Or at least closer to it...

Gee, why don't you sign up for the reserve? Then you can fight in the war just like the regular army does, but you and your family will be compensated much less and recive fewer benefits. Doesn't that sound fantastic?

:(

2. So in celebration of missing their recruiting goal
the Army Reserve is offering disincentives for those they are recruiting and changing the rules for those already signed up. To be honest, the services are trying to adjust to the havoc wrought by our civilian "leadership." Just one more legacy of george dubya bush.

4. The Reserve, IMO, was always kinda pointless anyway
You're either ready to go, or you're not, as I see it.

13. If All Young Republican Women and Men Joined, There Wouldn't Be A Problem
Instead of heckling Cindy Sheehan, why not join the military? What better way of putting her in her place. Right? Show your support of Bush and the war by signing up.
