Weld Gets Big Wallop in Gov Poll
August 25, 2005 -- WASHINGTON — Former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld starts out way behind in his bid to become New York governor, since Democrat Eliot Spitzer holds a commanding lead of nearly 3-1 in the first poll of their match-up.

In fact, upstate billionaire Tom Golisano runs a little better than Weld right now. State Attorney General Spitzer leads Weld by 25 percentage points and Golisano by 19 — a landslide either way, the RasmussenReports.com poll shows.

It's Spitzer over Weld by 55 to 20 percent. Spitzer tops Golisano — who ran before as an independent and is now mulling a Republican race — by 52 to 23 percent in the Tuesday poll.

...snip...

Spitzer even runs on a par with Weld among Republicans — Weld gets 40 percent in his own party to 36 for Spitzer.

1. I Am SOOOO Loving The Idea of Gov. Spitzer!
Here's to NY go ALL Dem next year, including getting control of the State Senate (as I'm predicting)! Next up: REDISTRICTING more Dems into Congress from NY.

2. That depends on the '06 State races
As long as the two parties split the legislature, they'll cut a redstricting deal for incumbent protection. If the Dems take the State Senate next year (considered possible/likely), things could change dramatically.

3. Some very welcome good news!
Spitzer is on a roll and I don't think anything could stop his train right now.

4. To hell with "flip-flopper" Weld.
I appreciated when he spoke out for marriage equality months ago. But by revoking that he has proved himself a true opportunist--no one should trust him left or right.

5. Watch out for old Bill.
He's a real charmer on camera and talks a good game at debates.

If anyone can eat into that lead, I'd put my money on him.

7. 3 to 1. No surprise.
This, however, is a bit of a surprise:

Spitzer even runs on a par with Weld among Republicans — Weld gets 40 percent in his own party to 36 for Spitzer.

Spitzer needs to do some campaigning to bring that 36% up. :)
