Bush Supporters Turn To TV To Challenge Sheehan To Debate
Bush Supporters Turn To TV To Challenge Sheehan To Debate
KWTX
August 25, 2005

The father of a slain Central Texas Marine appears in a new TV spot that began airing Thursday, challenging anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan to a debate.

In the spot, Gary Qualls, whose son, Marine Lance Cpl. Louis Qualls, died in 2004 in Iraq, takes Sheehan to task for calling the President a liar and for erecting a cross bearing his son’s name as part of what he calls “your sick cause.”

“Cindy, how can you be so cruel?” Qualls asks in the spot.

“I am challenging you to a debate, “ he says. “I am waiting.”

72. All Mr. Qualls does is repeat Rush Limbaugh talking point lies.
I am sorry for the loss of his son and I respect his feelings about where he stands politically. But I certainly do not approve of his sliming and smearing and lying on Cindy. She should tell him that she first wants to talk to Bush. After that, she will debate anyone.

126. 3 questions
Mr Qualls,

I have three questions for you. I am also a veteran of the US Army, Im not sure if you ever served.

1. Where are the Weapons of Mass Destruction the President used as a justification for this war?

2. Why did the President and Sec Def Rumsfeld attempt to tie Iraq to 9/11 on 09/12/01? (ps Mr Qualls, I dug bodies out of ground zero and spent my Christmas Day there in 2001. In case you want to call me an anti-american commie!)

3. If there were such weapons, who taught and trained the Iraqis how to make them? and who armed the Ultra Islamic mujahadeen (including a young saudi named Osama Bin Laden)?

If you have the courage to search your soul and answer honestly, You will come to the same conclusions I have, hence my screen name reformedrepub.

Actually, so do I ... but AFTER the Crawford Coward meets with Cindy.

Cindy has really put Crawford on the map. I have Crawford and it's environens in a mapping program in my laptop, and also have it in the Weather Bug Pro in my online computer. (Right now it's 96.3 deg. F, and 40% humidity. Barometric pressure is 29.95, and a 3mph wind is blowing from the east). Go, Cindy, GO!!

83. No. She NOT a Politician.
Calling for a debate is a stunt, an attempted distraction.
The Bush supporters are looking for sheer political tactics to try and drag Cindy down into the gutter.

Sheehan has a specific, focused objective: getting Bush to meet with her.
She must stick to that goal.

That being said, I think the line I read somewhere today should be sufficient to shut down a lot of these embittered, misguided war supporters:

The war is over! The Iranians won.

What in the world is there to debate?

Ms Sheehan lost her son in Iraq, she has asked for a meeting with the so called pResident and he won't meet with her.

do what these Repugnants do EVRYTIME they are challanged (EVERY DAMN TIME!)....they TALK OVER YOU, dont EVER answer the question (cuz they cant) and chag=nge the topic by simply saying "you dont know what you're talking about." The MSM would of course say that Qualls got the best of Sheehan and the conservative AM radio idiots (HAnnity, Liebaugh, Gallagher, etc etc etc) would praise him for his "courage" and talk about how patriotic this a-hole is. I would like to see Mike Malloy debate this ass Qualls. No challange. Malloy would DESTROY him, probably making him cry.

My favorite debate? Eric Alterman totally shutting down smartass Dennis Miller on Miller's short-lived show. Miller, without O'Reilly or Hannity's fixed fight wrestling protection, got body slammed by the polite Alterman.
He hasn't been the same since.

Cindy could make this guy Qualls look like the tool he his without breaking a sweat. There's no reason, logically, why she should bother - except now the wingnuts will start calling her a coward if she chooses not to. I'm betting that's going to be their next talking point.

There's no sense or logic to what the RWers say. They work on the basis that if they say something loudly enough, no matter how stupid it sounds, then no one can hear the truth.

Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 06:17 PM by 8_year_nightmare
His blatant grandstanding against a grieving mother who is addressing George Bush* -- whose lies & deceit is at issue -- reeks of his being bought by Karl Rove.

And she should not allow herself to get sucked into this low-level fighting back & forth with this man. Her focus is the man who lied about the war in which her son died needlessly. Period.

It is all defensive on their part. They really can't touch her with their lies or slander. She is the pure spirit.

All they can do to support their position is to try and tear her down. If their position was truly supportable by facts they would not need to attack Cindy but could repeat the facts. No one believes them anymore. There are no supportable facts on their side. They are desperate. Cindy reminds them of the lies that they are in denial of.

64. Same song.....different day. sucks! I hate war.
Bush is worse than Nixon ... Right?

The four students killed by members of the Ohio National Guard were:
Alison Krause, Jeffrey Miller, Sandra Scheuer and William Schroede

The Guardsmen were never prosecuted by the State of Ohio, for any
crime. President Nixon announced any number of investigations, none of
which reached any clear conclusions. White House tapes released later
showed that Nixon thought demonstrators were 'bums' had asked the
Secret Service to go beat them up, and apparently felt that the Kent
State victims 'had it coming'.

I have seen war. I have seen war on land and sea. I have
seen blood running from the wounded... I have seen the
dead in the mud. I have seen cities destroyed... I have
seen children starving. I have seen the agony of mothers
and wives. I hate war.

Debate about a mother's right to grieve? Debate about her having the right to ask for answers to her questions from the man who placed her son in harm's way because of his lies, and that are specific to her son's death?

Cindy sat down in a lawn chair outside of Crawford, Texas to wait for the highest (un)elected servant of the American public to come meet with her. What followed was support, love, and others who want answers to the same questions.

There is nothing to debate.

He's a Kool-Aid drinker of the first order, and his son got killed because of it. The psychological implications are staggering. No wonder he's allowed himself to be turned into a Republican operative--the only way he can live with himself is if somebody tells him what to think and what to say.

One of the things I'd recommend is getting someone famous but fair to referee the debate so Qualls does not shout her down. Don't get any of the bozos who refereed the Presidential debates. Even though I'm not a big fan of his, radio host Ed Schultz would be a good referee. Though he would be considered partisan by the Quall faction.

Anyone got any ideas for a debate referee or moderator who is a good moderator but not partisan?

THE ONLY QUESTION BEING ASKED IS "WHAT IS THE HONORABLE CAUSE THAT CINDY'S SON DIED FOR."

ANYTHING ELSE IS B.S. FOR THE TIME BEING.

IF SOMEONE WANTS TO DEBATE CINDY LET HIM/HER FIRST ANSWER THAT QUESTION. THAT QUESTION IS THE "GATE KEEPER" THROUGH WHICH ALL OF CINDY'S QUESTIONS MUST PASS. IF THEY CANNOT ANSWER THAT QUESTION THEY HAVE NO BUSINESS CRITICIZING HER OR DEBATING HER.

NEXT TIME A FREEPER CRITICIZES CINDY ASK THEM THE QUESTION:

"SINCE YOU OBVIOUSLY BELIEVE IN THE WAR; ANSWER THIS QUESTION: 'WHAT IS THE HONORABLE CAUSE THAT CINDY'S SON DIED FOR???'"

THEY WILL NOT HAVE AN ANSWER.

Maybe Democracy now, maybe CNN, maybe MSNBC... but Qualls was being interviewd and admitted that he and Cindy had met and then he said something along the lines of he thought they were getting along but then she had to go to a meeting and she just left him there, did not invite him to the meeting... I think he may have even said that he thought he was going to be part of her group.... wish I could remember it exactly or where I saw it.

An Associated Press article just released telling about Bush and Laura with a bunch of the press:

Bush Family Hosts White House Reporters
The Associated Press
Published: Aug 25, 2005

http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGBFSP9TTCE.html

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - President Bush played host to the White House press corps Thursday night for a private off-the-record dinner at his ranch.

The casual affair of fried catfish, potato salad, coleslaw, homemade cheese and chocolate-chip cookies followed a tradition in which Bush and his wife, Laura, have the press covering his annual August vacation out to the their ranch in central Texas as a sort of thank-you.

The event was not held last year because of the busy campaign season. The invitations to the reporters were issued on the condition that they not discuss conversations at the event.

AP-ES-08-25-05 2215EDT

We need to watch what the next form of attack is.
