Army chief says he's pleased with troops, calls Iraq "messy"
The Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The U.S. Army chief of staff said Friday he's pleased with the troops serving in Iraq and with the progress of the mission, although he acknowledged it's "slow and messy."
Gen. Peter Schoomaker spoke to about 200 people at an event sponsored by The Marines' Memorial Association and The World Affairs Council of Northern California.

....

After his 40-minute presentation, Schoomaker was asked by reporters what he thought of Cindy Sheehan, the war protester who's camped out at President Bush's Texas ranch.

He said he believed the media - not the American public - had latched onto Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq, and that he had no time to pay attention to the spectacle.

....

"We're people that get things done and we want to come to closure on things," he said, adding that Iraq was like eating soup with a fork - slow and messy.

1. Is this Schoomaker the same one involved in Able Danger?

U.S. Army Chief of Staff now? Seems he got well-rewarded if it is.

4. All the top generals these days are neocon yes-men.
We probably have a lot of good Colonels still in the military but the yes-men have been sent to the top by the neocons. This brazen power grab by the neocons is not in the best interest of the Nation. When the President fails to carefully consider the views of dissenting generals, a disaster will occur. But the neocons feel destiny is theirs, and they have acted only to secure more power for themselves. We see the consequences now with the utter failure of our national government to maintain peace and security.

8. This is true.
Rumsfailed held an "Inquisition" a few years back. All the generals had to go see him.

It was simple. Either you agreed with RumsFool, or you got out.

A lot of them opted to walk. The ones that are left: Myers, Miller, Sanchez, the whole lot of them. They're lying weasels who will cover for their civilian boss.

14. Myers is on his way out the door
...and I don't think he is leaving under his own steam. See, he could have had another tour as CJCS, seeing as we are in a state of war, and the senate would have rubberstamped it with no questions. But he is GONE, retiring in a few months.

Pete Pace, the #2, is taking his job. First time USMC has ever held the slot.

Myers was damn near blubbering at the announcement ceremony. He was all flushed and inarticulate.

What that means, who the fuck knows????

7. "Eating shit with a fork" is more like it. But I feel kind of sorry
for the guy; he MUST know that he has a military that is closer to mutiny than ever in American history sitting under him, just primed to explode and waiting for the right spark.

Like orders to invade Iran.

He knows it. Trust me, he does.

9. I wouldn't be surprised if someone ran off with heavy equipment
It'd explain the prez & veep retreating to who-knows-where and the entire navy weirdly mobilizing.

What an absolute heartless piece of flotsam on the planet. He should absolutely roast in hell watching people die over and over and over again in front of him. Messy. What a bastard of the human species. :grr:
