5. Seriously?
I thought they were starting last night!! I heard the VP talking to CNN last night and she said FEMA was getting ready to evacuate them then. She said they had patients on support and they couldn't be without the power generators.

OMG....

The Mayor just said that the city will be 3 ft above sea level (deep) in 12 to 15 hours! Who decided not to fill the breach, he wants to know. Will this be *'s call to War on Water?

4. Charity Hospital
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 08:35 PM by serryjw
quote.......
Hospitals were running out of power and scrambling to find places to take their patients. At one clinic, broken glass littered some areas and patients and staff had fallen on floors slick with floodwaters.

"It's like being in a Third World country," said Mitch Handrich, a registered nurse manager at Charity Hospital, where nurses were ventilating patients by hand after the power and then the backup generator failed. Some 300 patients had yet to be evacuated, but the babies in intensive care had been flown out.

8. I heard (15 min ago on CNN)
that the spokeswomen for Tulane Univ Hospital said that they were evacuating everyone from the hospital via the roof- very slowly, 1 at time.

She said the hospital is completely surrounded by water and "They are looting the employees cars in the parking garage, as we evacuate patients from the roof."

Sounds very dire!

10. This was my personal nightmare as a nurse
I used to have this dream several times a month. Power out, generator fails. 14 ICU patients on ventilators. Eight nurses to manually ventilate the patients. Who lives and who dies?

My heart is breaking for the nurses trying to care for patients in this situation.
