Major ozone loss over Antarctic
30 August 2005

New readings from the European satellite Envisat suggest that this year's southern hemisphere ozone hole may be one of the largest on record.

The hole covers an area of 10 million sq km (four million sq miles) - approximately the same size as Europe.

It is expected to continue expanding for two to three weeks.

There have been signs over the last two years that damage to the ozone layer has reduced, but a full recovery is not expected until around 2050.

Here's another article...says it's as big as Europe!

Widening ozone hole is as big as Europe

August 30 2005 at 03:49PM

Paris - The seasonal ozone hole over Antarctica has widened sharply this year, making it the biggest hole since 2000 and the third largest on record, according to measurements reported here on Tuesday by the European Space Agency (ESA).

Data sent back ESA's Earth-monitoring satellite Envisat showed the hole had swollen to an area of 10-million-square-kilometres in mid-August, approximately the same size as Europe.

The hole is likely to expand further before reaching its maximum in September, ESA said in a press release.

"This year's hole is large for this time of year, based on results from the last decade. Only the ozone holes of 1996 and 2000 had a larger area at this point in their development," it said.

While fighting for that last drop of oil. No link, but didn't he demand bLiar take out any and all mention of global warming for that G8 meeting? And didn't he ignore all warnings from Scientists about this?

4. Good thing our golf courses & berry farms . . .
. . . get to use all the ozone-depleting methyl bromide they want under the special negotiations we've inititated under the Montreal Protocol.

After all, what's a little extra skin cancer next to flawless putting greens and perfect, tasteless strawberries 365 days a year?!?

5. Dying of melanoma, McCain still fellates corporate power
They hate him as they use him, and he'll never get the keys to the kingdom he craves, but he'll slurp a-mighty in some futile act of loyalty. Meanwhile, his face melts from his skull and he smiles as if nothing's wrong.

Why be so nasty to someone who's dying? He's the worst kind of asshole, one who betrays everything--including himself--for power.

This masculine power myth has to end. Those who feel they can transcend reality by manly perseverance will destroy us all.

At this rate, I'll have to wear a burka every time I go outside just to protect my skin!
