Gas suppliers' move may hike price at pump
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/12522700.htm

Florida gasoline suppliers have begun increasing the prices they charge service stations -- but the impact on pump prices is unclear.

BY MATTHEW HAGGMAN AND DOUGLAS HANKS III

mhaggman@herald.com

Gasoline wholesalers jacked up the price they charge South Florida service stations as much as 68 cents a gallon Tuesday as the scope of Hurricane Katrina's impact on the petroleum industry began to reverberate.

At least four of 17 suppliers in Florida told local stations to expect less-frequent deliveries of fuel.

Early this morning, long lines -- as many as 23 cars deep -- were forming at several South Florida gas stations. But others had no lines, and state officials and industry representatives insisted there is enough gas to go around.

It was unclear what impact the wholesale price hike would have on pump prices. Wholesale price hikes are typically passed along to customers. Less-frequent delivery of fuel could mean more stations running dry or running out of some grades of fuel.

1. gas went up 10 cents at my local station in NYC (upper Manhattan)
I usually have a five mile bike ride before going to work and I always make note of the gas prices I see along the way, but I skipped it this morning, so I can only go by this one station near my apt.

I can't wait until to see what they'll be in the morning

$2.79 at the cheapest station.

I'm not going to complain though, San Francisco and San Diego is up over $3 a gallon.

10. NY is only slightly cheaper than the W. Coast ....
just subtract a nickel or so .... at least we have Jersey near by (because of all the refiniers and lower taxes on gas, its a bit cheaper)

12. They are gouging us! Again.
Not once has the oil companies shown anything but RECORD PROFITS in the past few years of these price spikes. Because of oil traders we are being gouged more because of a human assessment of how much they CAN CHARGE US AND GET AWAY WITH IT, rather than the real costs of getting it to us. People in suits in a big city decide what the oil is going to cost, based upon the news of the day. Nothing to do with reality... just 'jittery' traders.

Where the fuck is Bush in all this??? Remember when he said as President he would call OPEC?

9. Citgo is definently the way to go if your town has one.
The price is about 20 cent cheaper her in Brunswick, Georgia. I guess Chavez vow to supply cheaper oil is paying off as we have had two local stations change thier brand to Citgo since Chavez's announcement that he will provide cheaper gas.

13. $2.54 to $2.89 in KS since Sun. PM
Gouging is right.

Wish there was a Citgo or Hess around here, but there's not.

BTW - I can almost guarantee the station owners are as pissed as we are. They're not making any more off this, and will probably lose profit because "drive-offs" will almost definitely be on the rise.
