Bush warns of gasoline problem this holiday weekend

BILOXI, Miss., Sept 2 (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush warned motorists on Friday to expect "a problem" with gasoline over the Labor Day holiday weekend when high prices and sporadic outages may interfere with Americans' final summer outings.

"Listen, we're going to have a problem this weekend when it comes to gasoline but we're addressing it," Bush told reporters while touring damage and recovery efforts from Hurricane Katrina which slammed into Louisiana and Mississippi on Monday.

I love how he starts with "Listen"

8. Why not encourage people to conserve?
Urge people to stay close to home this holiday. Or, reschedule labor day weekend. Or take a train or bus instead of driving.

His words only encourage people to continue with their plans, putting further pressure on the fuel supply and driving prices (and profits) up even higher.

The way to get past a gas shortage is not to fill tanks, but to leave them empty.

12. I think it was a head's up to the twins
probably code to tell them to get to their chosen party spots early. Maybe he should suggest that we all carpool to the malls, get on with our lives and go shopping. Nothing is more patriotic to the idiot than supporting corporations.

22. Good point. On my calendar,
the weekend is already here.

So -- what are your solutions Bush? Since you're an oil man, you would probably know the intricacies, the "inner workings" of the oil industry.

I'm so glad we have you at the helm.

17. Well, duh!
There has ALREADY BEEN a gasoline 'problem' for some time -- a crisis, rather. Labor day will bring a gasoline disaster. Figure I'm staying home for the weekend, and many weekends beyond. It costs too much to go anywhere.

It just cost me $59.00 to fill my car (cost me $20. a year ago).... even the "cheap" stuff is $3.25 + now... (went up 25 cents while I was at work today) who the hell can afford to drive? I mean, it'll start effecting even the upper crust at some point.... RIGHT?

26. wow.
gas prices went up 25 c while you were at work? amazing. i think that's where the nationalization of india's petroluem companies is saving us. out here, the govt is letting the giant petroleum companies, controlled by the govt, bleed rather than pass on rise in international crude prices to us consumers. any price increase is preceded by weeks and weeks of fierce debate in parliament and tv studios. can't imagine an increase in petrol price by the time i go home from work!

the price of crude has leapt up all through the year, but we haven't seen the price of petrol increase in the last six months at least, if not more than that.

but now i think the govt is finally listening to the whining of the corporations, and we're bracing for a two buck increase in petrol prices...

anyway, maybe you guys can organize a revolution and put kucinich in charge of america and he can nationalise all these price gouging crony corporations. let them bleed, i say. ordinary americans have bled enough...

18. I find it interesting
That the hurricane shut down so many refineries in the Louisiana area just when world oil prices are being spiked by the Saudis and the OPEC cartel. I understand the HAARP project can influence weather, i.e., cause warming in certain areas depending on the direction of their massive magnetic & electric directional discharges. Could it be they can also steer some storms? Hmmmm.

25. "Don't buy gas unless you really need it."
Those were the Wise One's words a few days ago.

I bet the nation will conserve a lot once we stop buying all that gas we don't need.

Yale must be really proud of this legacy grad.
