Horrible scenes at New Orleans airport
In triage center, baggage conveyor used for grim task of moving bodies

NEW ORLEANS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - I cannot believe what I am seeing here in the New Orleans area. I’ve been reporting for 21 years around the world and I've never seen the likes of this.

Baggage conveyor being put to grim task
The airport, meantime, has been converted into a triage center. There are so many bodies that medical staff are using the baggage conveyor to carry the stretchers.

There are just so many patients and so few people to help. I would estimate that there are at least 1,000 patients who have been brought in here.

...

People are coming in here with all sorts of conditions — from those who were on chemotherapy for cancer to those with heart failure.

Then there are those who were injured by the hurricane and its aftermath. I spoke to a man who was beaten up at the Superdome. His jaw was broken and he had a friend with him who had a concussion and was basically unconscious....

2. God help them ...... God help us all.
It just keeps getting worse and worse. Good thing that Mr. Brown (head of
FEMA) had that experience as legal consul to the Arabian Show Horse
Association.

So many people should be fired and removed from their jobs ASAP
after this nightmare it is not funny.

5. No - I think this time Bush has to sacrifice someone
and Brown will be the one. Chertoff may be the one to get the medal.

6. i think Chertoff will be allowed to go back to his crypt .......
..... and sleep. He has screwed it up as big as Brown.

Remember after 9/11 the millions that were spent to make sure that
post emergency staff would have communications?

Where the hell are they?

10. sure would be nice to have those navy hospital ships there already
but they weren't leaving port in baltimore and san diego until today. i think the one from baltimore is due in NOLA on the 8th. the one from san diego will take 2 weeks to get there.

who ever could have imagined they might be needed sooner than that?

11. Wow - I am really shook up after reading that.
The part about the woman that didn't know where she was, and then he came over and told her that she was going to be okay, and the old woman kissed him...

and when he wrote about the sounds of the people screaming from pain, and there was nothing that could be done to help them.

My God - why???

13. Is this Laura Bush reporting?
I heard that our benevolent First Lady toured the damaged areas, some of the worst, because she has such a big heart and wanted to comfort the most in need. Then she went out to flooded areas to pick dead bodies out of the water. What a woman. Steel Magnolia.
