Landrieu Presses Bush for Aide Coordinator
WASHINGTON -- Sen. Mary Landrieu called Friday for President Bush to appoint a cabinet-level official to direct the federal response to the devastation along the Gulf Coast caused by Hurricane Katrina.

Landrieu, a Louisiana Democrat, said she asked Bush during his tour of New Orleans on Friday to act within 24 hours to put a single official in charge of the overall relief effort who would report directly to him.

"The suffering has gone on long enough," she said. "Now is the time for action."

....{Bush}has faced increasing criticism from state and local officials for the government's slow response to the disaster.

Landrieu joined the chorus Friday.

"The people of Southeast Louisiana and the Gulf Coast have suffered in a desperate and unprecedented way, waiting for the administration to employ the full resources of the United States government, resources which, for whatever reason, have yet to arrive," she said.

1. Coordinator? hah!
A coordinator might actually keep track of expenditures and then Halliburton/KBR/Blackwater would have trouble skimming.

16. egg freaking zactly! What the mother flaggelating hell is FEMA doing?
They should have had a master zen coordinator down there by Saturday night, and a Command Center setup by Sunday afternoon.

FEMA, itself, -- BUSH's FEMA, that is! -- is a bloody disaster area.

------

On my drive home tonight, a thought crystalized in my mind. The entire 2006 mid-term elections should be run on a single point. It is a matter of urgent national concern that Bush be removed from office as soon as possible. Articles of impeachment should be drawn up and publicized immediately, and continually proclaimed -- until either enough Republicans get on board, or Democrats take back the House and Senate in 2006.

We cannot afford another 3 1/2 years of this incompetent, criminally negligent administration.

Bush Out by April 2007!, or BUST...!

5. I don't think you get it. You didn't listen to Randi's show.
Landrieu had to do it. Why because we all know Bush Administration is famous for punishing the states of people who talk bad about him.
Randi knows what the deal is. Download her show from her site and if you have an open mind you'll also be able to see.

4. A Coordinator? Someone capable & knowledgable & effective?
Why that would compete with corporations. And we cannot have that. All coordinators or heads of all government organizations must be either incapable of doing their jobs or pretend they are.

They are

FUNCTION-NOTS

.

Just disgusting. (And, as a side note, it is likely that that nickname has nothing to do with his buddy's surname.)

12. When are you going to learn, DINO?
Sucking Bush ass will get you nowhere.

You're dealing with thieves and murderers that would make Tiberius and Caligula look like a couple of boyscouts looking at some stolen Playboys.

Why aren't you calling for the prosecution of this criminal administration?

Why aren't you demanding that they be frog marched in orange jumpsuits and leg irons?

How many more of your fellow americans have to be murdered before you wake the hell up, Mary?

Unless you're part of it.

If that's the case, then we'll be coming for you soon enough

She was congratulating * for his wonderful help, blah, blah, blah, and Cooper just went off on her. It was pretty impressive. I think that might have stuck with her...

25. I have to admit...
I am forever making fun of Anderson Cooper for going to cover hurricanes, but I am thankful he was there for this one. He has done some amazing reporting. I find that I sometimes turn away when he comes on because I know I'll be heartbroken within minutes.

As for Landrieu, I think she trying very hard in this situation. The kissing up to * was getting to me, though. She's a DLCer, so she was never a real favorite of mine.

17. A Cabinet level Official....like they had during the Clinton Admin....
but was downgraded and rolled into "Homeland Security" by junior?

It WAS a cabinet level position at one time, back when the grown ups were in charge. Juniors slash and burn "privatization" of everything campaign is directly to blame for this tragedy. Remember the stated aim of the neo-cons, "shrink government to the size where we can drown it in a bathtub". Carve up everything and give their political backers sweet, no-bid contracts to take the place of government offices. See how well it's worked for FEMA! Who can argue with that policy? ME, THAT'S WHO! :grr:

20. Privatization
Bush/Cheney are probably working out a contract with Halliburton (or another company) right now for providing "disaster relief" to victims.

Halliburton will provide:

1 liter of bottled water for $10.00
sandwich for $17.50
can of infant formula for $15.00

You get the drift. Hey, there's money to be made here!! That's why Bush is asking for "cash donations".

It has been reported on other threads yesterday.

24. You hit on something that's annoying the hell out of me.
Bush is asking everyone to donate- why isn't he callin on all those corporate giants he has given tax cuts to, and asking them to donate those taxes back to help the victims?

18. Put that kid who loaded all those people on the bus in charge
You know the one I am talking about? I mean the one who found an apparently abandoned bus, loaded it up with a few dozen people he didn't even know, and drove them all the way to Houston.

At least he took some initiative and got some results. Kudos to you, kid, I hope they give you a job at FEMA. Those morons in charge of DHS and FEMA (not to mention the moron-in-chief who put them there)have probably made less of a real contribution than you to this disaster.

And it's about time Landrieu woke up out of her Bush-induced stupor and said something. Good for you too Senator!

19. Or The Person With Marriott Corp
Who got a bus and got the guests and employees from the Ritz Cartlton & JW Marriott

After waiting days in vain for the federal government to do something, there are people taking control of the situation on their own.

26. Is this the same
Mary Lanrieu that voted to pass the bush energy bill that had cuts in the corp of engineers budget for 2006 and maybe she also voted for the cuts to the corps needs in bush's 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, budgets as well...... bush knew this was likely to happen...they did a worst case scenario and found what would happen if certain things were not done to the levee's but still they cut the budget that would have included millions for this construction...... those cuts went to what.....uh huh ....tax cuts, tax cuts, tax cuts.....
