Venezuela Preparing to Repel U.S. Invasion if Necessary, Chavez Says
http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGBWQKZ06DE.html

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - Venezuela has uncovered plans for a U.S.-led invasion and is preparing to defend the country against invading forces, President Hugo Chavez said in a report carried by the state-run news agency.

The Bolivarian News Agency reported late Friday that Chavez made the comments during an interview with CNN. It was unclear when the interview was to be aired.

"If it occurs to the United States to invade our country - Fidel Castro said it and I agree - a war will start here to last 100 years," Chavez was quoted as saying. "We are preparing to repel an invasion."

Chavez has made similar claims in the past, and U.S. officials have repeatedly denied them as ridiculous. Venezuela is the world's fifth largest oil exporter and a major supplier of fuel to the United States.

1. Why Should Anyone Believe A "US Official" Ever Again
I have lost total faith in the "Government".

We the people will have to take the country by force, if necessary.

We know elections are fixed, so that is not the method.

We know that the military and police are with the elite.

We know that the rich white fundies are sham christians, so faith is of no help.

We know that the corporations are beyond the law and above the fray.

The only remedy left is to "storm the capitol".

See you at the Guillotine.

I wonder who's head will be first?

30. To understand what's happening in Venezuela one need only read
the history of Chile and Salvador Allende. It's a cookie cutter approach that hasn't changed since the US started overthrowing governments in the early 1950s.

13. Chavez Supporters Want Robertson Prosecuted for Assassination Call
More than 100 supporters of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez marched through Caracas on Saturday to demand justice against American religious broadcaster Pat Robertson for recently suggesting their president should be killed.

The protesters said they were asking Venezuelan prosecutors to get involved. Marchers held signs with images of Robertson, including one calling him an "enemy of Venezuela."

The march came after Chavez reiterated in a recent interview with CNN that Venezuela is prepared to defend itself against a U.S. invasion if necessary.

22. I think Chavez needs to go one step further...
I think he also needs to lay out the typical Bush-invasion plan and MAKE FUN OF IT UNTIL THE COWS COME HOME!

He should say, "If the United States thinks it can play funny games with intelligence and push a lie-based war on our country--they need to think again."

Call them out. Make fun of them. Reveal the corrupt US strategy before we even roll the dice.

I think Chavez is incredibly smart. He's all ready reaching out to the American people--which will make it more difficult for a war on VZ to be popular. It's a little difficult to declare war on a country that is helping U.S citizens pay their heating bills and providing them with cheap gas.

BEAUTIFUL!!

Chavez, now there's a leader. Bush, no there's a nimrod.

28. Then is Chavez
dumb enough to think China will protect him from the BFEE? I don't think this Pat Robertson flapdoodle was some kind of accident. It was intended to get a reaction out of Chavez, one that they assumed he was too dumb to avoid. I don't know that much abot Chavez. He may be very capable at ruling Venezuela yet inexperienced on the world stage.

39. I doubt it.
He has handled himself rather well for some time now,
and this is hardly the first sally from the Bushites.
He would be a fool to expect the Chinese to be anything
but self-interested and pragmatic, and he has given no
sign of being a fool.

I considered Robertsons verbal diarrhea to be a Bushite
act of desperation, and a stupid one.

34. To a degree they are - both are in favor...
of keeping everyone else servile, and both are content to keep the current system of trade between them more or less as it is.

But neither is particularly happy about the other being so powerful either. China does not particularly like the US messing around in Central Asia, nor does the US particularly like China doing the same thing in Latin America.

If Chávez plays both against the other - and he seems to be doing so pretty effectively at the moment - he can probably remain pretty independent of both.

41. Here's a longer version of this AP story for anyone who's interested
in reading more. It's somewhat interesting, to be sure:
The U.S.-based Web site VHeadline.com, which focuses on Venezuela, published an article last year saying the Spanish military held "Operation Balboa" in May 2001, conducting a mock assault in which the United States and allied countries simulated an attack on western Venezuela from bases in Panama and Colombia.

Citing documents on the exercises, the Web site's article said U.S. and NATO officials provided confidential and secret information about Venezuela for the simulation conducted by 26 lieutenant colonels and other officials from the Spanish air force and other countries.

The state news agency's report did not make clear whether Chavez was referring to those particular exercises in 2001 or others with the same name. Chavez had been sharply critical of the former Spanish government of then-Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, but has good relations with the current Spanish government.

Spain's Defense Minister said Saturday it didn't immediately have a response to Chavez's comments.

U.S. officials in the past have said such training is meant to prepare troops for general scenarios but not for a specify military action.

The state news agency, commonly known as ABN for its initials in Spanish, said according to Chavez the invasion plan has included a wave of bombings over Caracas and the cities of Maracay and Valencia.
(snip/...)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If there's any way our greedy, slimey PNACer murderous scum think they can pull it off, they WILL invade Venezuela and try to destroy ALL opposition. Venezuela has rebuffed all the steps they took with Chile before they won on September 11, 1973.
